Working for the government for 20 years and nothing surprises me.....always fudge the numbers to make it look good until inspection time....then your busted.

you forget all the construction jobs in the u.s a re done by illegals, so we haven't lost any construction jobs!!!!

and 5% unemployment is better than all of europe and we are in a recession??? i guess they are in a depression!!!!!

Hey, I wonder how many people can't claim anymore benefits? Didn't the president refuse to extend unemployment benefits a few weeks earlier?

the numbers that are put out each week are the new claims. the continuing claims are just below 3 mil. he didn't sign the bill due to all the earmarks on it from the dems. i love politics!!!

Also if u/e nbrs months ago was at or under 5% the fact that some have run out of benefits would not lower the current u/e rate. Since others have joined the u/e ranks taking the place of those who have run out of benefits.

It is just a statistical rounding factor why it has dropped a tick this month. If we continue to have negative or very lower job rates then the u/e rate will in fact rise.

we shall see what the stimulus pkg does. housing will be a drag until next year, but retail and mfg should jump up some if people spend their checks. as for the govt buying dollars, why do you say this??? it has been done before, especially with the jpy, so why can't we do it??? boost the dollar and hammer the speculators and push commodities down to where they should be, that would help everyone.

Yes... This is how BSish markets can be. The expectations were "not much reaction because a -80K doom was already priced in"

Then it comes -20K and there is no much reaction either.

Commentaries also have it NFP might have - MIGHT HAVE - found the bottom already. Well, we'll have to wait for a month to find out. :
