Hi Guys and gals. I notice that the pivots change whenever i close my Metatrader platform and reopen. The PIVOTS don't seem to change or move as the market trends unless you reopen the platform. is this normal? Why don't the pivots adjust automatically?

In further research, i have found that the pivots change when you edit the pivots even without making any changes to the settings. They do not change simply by closing and reopening the platform. Is this normal and something i should do throughout the day?

I have some qs bout Pivots too.

Shouldnt a pivot based on its classical concept stay FIXED for a given period that is a daily piv for one day period (whatever that is for forex, from NY open to NY open?? would like to know that as well)...

I think if a daily piv or a weekly...changes during mt4 reset or whatever event, there is something wrong or is it me whos wrong?

thx

I am preparing to buy GJ, as an H1 signal seems to be in the making. Also, a nice bullish engulfing pattern formed on the H4. I am still waiting for a pullback - you know GJ...
My stop is just below the recent 195.4 low, and my target will probably be at least 200pips from entry.
Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Hello 6pack,

I like your anaology to trade with better probability in your favour and with confidence. Looking at that post, I would have entered right there and then and probably would have lost the trade with stoploss not to deep. From your next post "200 pips delivered" it seems that red lines indicating your entry and exits.
Let me ask you so that I also pay attentions to details as you do to be consistent

Did you wait for pull back?
Did you go back to 5 min chart and enter into trade
What was your stoploss?
If we are looking at 1 hour chart to enter or getting ready to enter into traee, should it be in accordance with previous low price on few candles back, on the 1 hour chart?

Please let me know so that I minimize my chances of getting into wrong side of the trade.

Thanks

Ak

I use this system on H1, with the original settings on all indicators. Works great - see some of my previous posts. Many traders here also use M15. I suggest, that if for some reason you want to use the M30 - test it. One quick and dirty way to do that is to open an offline chart, zoom out, and look at previous signals. See which ones you would have taken and how much you would have gained or lost. If that comes out favorably, demo trade it [IMHO for at least 10 trades]. Then just keep in mind that the market just keeps on surprising, even the most experienced traders. Anything can happen, specially with GJ.
Good luck,
6pack

I always look at several timeframes [see my screen layout below], but I do not wait for an M5 signal, if that's what you're asking.

Yes, my stoploss is determined by previous s/r levels, usually in the same tf I happen to be trading. That's how I determined that 195.4 stop.

I hope this answers all of your questions.
Good luck!

is someone using this system on higher timeframes (e.g. 1 HR). I think it works better and theres not so much noise and false signals. Could this be possible?

"Better" is subjective unless we agree on some objective measure... However, I personally also prefer the H1 signals with this system on GJ. Most H1 signals lead to 200+ pip moves (see my earlier posts here).

The volatility of this pair requires wide stop losses [which obviously hurt when they're hit...] So I wait for pullbacks/retracements after H1 signals [or if I think they're about to be formed] before entering. Additionally, I look for "supplemental supporting evidence" for a move in my direction: most often, various candlestick formations.

Finally, use discretion. I never get in automatically, meaning I often enter a position when a signal hasn't formed yet, and vice versa: I often stay out even when a very clear signal emerges on this system.

Enjoy success!
