(Dow Jones)- Talk that the Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee has been asked to cancel its Easter holiday leave due to stress at financial institutions is false, a spokesperson for the BOE said Wednesday.
"This story about the BOE, that our monetary policy committee members have been asked to cancel their leave, that's absolute rubbish," a BOE spokesperson said.
She said BOE Governor Mervyn King's decision to postpone a speech to regional business leaders Tuesday, so he could be in London to monitor events, may have triggered the talk which has hit banking stocks in London in early trading Wednesday.
