Gotta love when the Fed announces we're facing stagflation and the market's rally.

There are some counter-intuitive rallies that have at least a hint of a reasonable explanation, but this one is just absurd. GBP down, inflation up, oil settling over $100, OPEC threatening cuts, housing market in the toilet, and not much more room for the Fed to cut rates.... and this somehow ends in a rally. I'm thoroughly amazed at times like these.

That's why I've been selling GJ (Yen crosses) on the rallies. As long as I get my daily 100+ on GJ, I'm happy. Screw the markets because in the end, they are screwing themselves. Sign on Wall Street "Logic Need Not Apply".

Dow closed around 93 points. Oil above $100 with $120 possibly in several weeks. Hedge funds facing difficulties, Bond companies in trouble, New home loans and refinancing down. "Logic need not apply".

Bad news alone does not drive markets lower. People have to sell. Its not automatic. Less selling strength than buying means markets must rise.

[Briefing.Com] On a related note, the FOMC Minutes from the January 29-30 meeting indicated that members felt inflation expectations would remain reasonably well anchored. Still, it was not lost on the market, which saw oil prices top $100 again in Wednesday's trading, that the Fed raised its core inflation forecast for 2008 to 2.0% to 2.2% from 1.7% to 1.9%. The Fed also cut its 2008 GDP forecast to 1.3% to 2.0% from 1.8% to 2.5%.
The takeaway for the market was that the updated forecasts continue to support the view that further rate cuts remain likely. Accordingly, the stock market pressed higher following the release of the minutes.
