It is amazing how many views and replies Phillip Nel's thread has gotten here at FF in the relatively short time period it has been in existence (since Jan. 2007). I mean, over 1 MILLION views and 8500 replies (at the time of this posting). Wow! The next closest thread - in terms of views and replies - is the "james16 Chart Thread". And that thread has been around 1 1/2 years LONGER than Phillip Nel's thread and STILL doesn't have as many views (or replies) as Phillp's thread!

So, that obviously brings up the question: Is the "4 Hour Strategy (MACD)" system the best system here at FF? In fact, is it the best system out there, period? I don't know because i personally haven't used the system. I've been focusing the Cornflower system because it's very simple and it works. I've looked at Phillip Nel's system and thought it was a bit complicated - at least when compared to the Cornflower system. That's the reason I haven't personally tried out his system. However, with the attention it has gotten, I plan to look closer at the system and give it a try.

So how about it? For those who have looked into it, is Phillip's system the best system going today?

If you have something that is working for you, why are you asking other people if something else which you hadn't tried will work better? Flawed thinking?

What has # of views got to do with Quality? You can go to the Auslanco thread, it has 3.8 million views... that must be the best system the world has ever seen!

You can assume by going to the trading systems, which system people prefer by the number of replies it has received. This can be the gauge that your referring to.

Good Luck

I don't know if it can be considered the "best" system FF has etc etc...its too subjective really.....and I haven't visited the thread for a while...actually I think since the summer but that s due to me and my time/life issues etc...

But up to thatpoint I had been following Phillips thread closely....and I tell you one thing....i have not seen anyone put as much effort into a threat on a public forum as he does to his.......what he does is to explain his system in relation to the prevailing market conditions with MP3 recordings etc....and its of helluva education value to listen to the bloke..it helps heaps.....i mean seriously...U would easily fork out 4 figure sums to so called Seminar companies for that kinda stuff......I don;t know if he still does it..

It's hard to comment on what the actual 'best' system is anywhere for that matter. Best can be defined as the number of pips per month (this will always vary depending on how many pairs someone trades), best in terms of it fits my trading style, best in terms of it fits my work/life schedule...lot's of defining terms there.

As far as it being complicated....it may seem a little daunting at first but once things get rolling in the old brain, the bigger picture comes into view with 'seeing' the rhythm of the market and eventually migrating to the 1hr charts for additional entries. The real nice thing about the method is that is hasn't changed since day 1. Same indicators, same rules....nothing has changed. Phillip stresses the patience factor on a weekly basis, that goes for any type of trading.

Yes, there are a tremendous amount of views, and posts in a short time. And, Phillip has put a huuuuge amount of time into the .pdf and .mp3 files not to mention the feedback he offers. There's a lot of people 'helping' out as well. Lot's of new faces showing up and with "I'm new to Forex, and trading, and...." questions with someone always 'there' to answer questions. There are a lot of good solid methods out there and this is one of them. It's just a matter of taking the time to let it all sink in and seeing the bigger picture of things. I traded my first corn contract back in 1996 I think. Out of all the methods that I have seen, this one 'fits' me the best apart from my own trading method goes. The fact that it works so well is just an added bonus.

Oh yeah, there's website for it too I think....

I would have to say that the 4 Hour MACD system and the James16 thread are essentially the same method. Both are based on price action, it's just the MACD system basically shows you price action in an indicator type format - round top, zero line crosses/bounces etc. etc.

After much searching of systems, systems and more systems I think if you can successfully learn price action in whatever form, James16 or MACD style you won't go far wrong.

Even if you just using Moving Averages, as long as you have proper money management, you can be rich. It's a system too..

Two of the most successful traders I know came from Phillip's system, and then, in my opinion, improved on it. It's called Dollie's Safe Pip Indicators. I totally admit I am biased but dollie has a better macd. I used version 2 of the system on post #296

Agreed that money management is an essential part of all good traders success stories.....

Not so sure on the moving averages though? Are you talking a cross over system? To me they just lag so so so much and also perform woefully in sideways markets.

I don't consider following price action a "system" but more reading where the professional money is moving the market. I do use MAs but only as areas where the market might take a breather i.e. find potential support or resistance.

Crossovers though, I'm not convinced......not wanting to start an arguement just my two pence

Hi pip pirate 2,

What makes Dollie's MACD better over the standard MACD in your opinion?

I take it that it must be based on "uprated" Moving Averages in the first place?

A strategy is only as good as the trader who trades it. You could have give the best strategy to me when I first started and I would still have lost money.

True enough for most beginners I would say!

I just think that understanding price action goes a long way to improving any trading system. So much so you can trade price action alone.

Price action with some simple support and resistance is by far and away the best way to trade........I think.......

It's difficult to say if a sistem is better than another (depends on you what kind of trader you are, aggressive or not aggressive)... for sure the 4 hour MACD is a very good one, but what it really makes it the best (for me) is the learnings i've got from that thread, i think (as i'm pretty new to trading) that success comes just after knowledge, so if you have a good sistem with 3-4 good indicators(i don't know your sistem so maybe it doesn't use indicators, i'm generally speaking) but you know nothing about price movements you are not going to last, an indicator is good for certain market period, what will happen if you can't recognize those periods? you are gonna use those indicators even in bad one! so you will lose money, if you are lucky and bad period will be short you'll survive, otherwise...
So my conclusion is that the thread is good not just for the sistem itself, but most of all for the knowledge it gives.

I agree with one of the above posters, just because a thread has more views or more replies doesn't necessarily make it a good system. For me, the threads which I find the most valuable thus far...

James16 Chart Thread
I think if you're a beginner, you should definitely learn the basics and how to read price action first before adding indicators.

Jacko's Forex House of Pleasure and Pain
I find this one helpful because Jacko's methodology of trading is very simple and easy. He also has a very clever way of recovering losses using his Anti-Hedge strategy.
