just a quick post..I honestly believe that to make long term daily trading descions you need to trade a mechanical system perhaps with paper rules but carved in stone.

In Futures Im 100% mechanical but my plateform cannot access all the swaps I want I there for downloaded Meta Trader reading some threads it seems a few of you like VTrader.

can some one just give me a quick heads up on the pro's and cons of each please. ie what is the easier to programme in etc etc.

Ok let me put my head on the block now

Positions open

EURUSD-Short 1.4619 1st tgt 120pips - hit -rest 50% open
GPBUSD- short 2.0200 1st tgt 200 pips - hit -rest 50% open
AUDUSD- short 0.8830 1st tgt 140 pips - hit- rest 50% open

recently closed trades

USDCAD -130pip loss
EURCHF- 1st tgt hit +75 pips 2nd half stopped break even
GBPCHF- 1st tgt hit +207 pips 2nd half closed +90 pips
EURGBP - 1st tgt hit +56 pips 2nd half stopped break even

Position opened last night

EURGBP - Long 0.7198 1st tgt 50 pips at 0.7248

if this hits 50% will be closed and stop bought to break even.

Good trading

I don't use either of them anymore, but you will likely get more help with meta trader. and more brokers to choose from.
VT trader only has CMS for a broker.

As a programmer, I like metatrader better. Mainly due to its similarities to C programming.

Now.... you can't come in here and tease us like that, if you are able, share your system with us.

I have used both.

If your not into programming, VT trader is soooo simple. You can pick up template systems and adapt them for your own use. I love it, but it has down sides. You cannot access information accross instruments or timeframes. You are locked into the instrument and timeframe of the chart. I do get disconnections occasionally. I'm not convinced that the servers are as solid as I would like them to be for autotrading.

I find Metatrader difficult to program. I'm getting there but slowly. You can access information from other timeframes and instruments. At the moment I'm using both because I have indicators in VTrader that I haven't successfully programmed in MT4 yet. I also have indicators in MT4 that it is impossible to get in VTrader.

I haven't tried position control in MT4 yet because I'm not that good at programming it yet, whereas I found VTrader to be fairly straight forward.

Hope my observations help. I have had no problems with any of the Market Makers that use either software.

Good Advice .. thanks for the post

I love simple..so many times traders try to complicate things by adding several indicators all conspiring against one another.

My approach is simple..... You need an edge once found carve out some rules, dont expect to win every trade.I would trade a system that gave me 40% winners with a risk reward of 3:1....if your bank is the right size and your stake is in the correct proportion youll be quids in

cheers

Ok is my inexperience showing here do you guys open postions on a Friday evening ? ..well here are my 2 trades i took at 9pm with capital spreads.

targets are worked out by taking the ATR of the last 5 days and adding that average points total to my 'fill' price. My thinking behind this

If the last 5 days have had an average move of 80 points why set a tgt of 30 ?

If the last 5 days have had an average move of 30 points why set a tgt of 80 points ?

The 1st is EURCHF .. from a technical point of view ( It doesnt enter into my mind set at all..this is 100% mech giuded by indictaors, although I do realise technical does mean inds)

we have had higher highs and higher lows so possible trend continuation, nice up channel 1st target ( blue line) is below last swing high.

Down side could be forming lower high as per pattern 9th Oct to 31st oct,but no diversity on top indicator to hint of possible down side.

The 2nd is EURJPY lower low possible sideways move, diversity on top ind but not complimented by bottom ind..plus is that the 1st target ( blue line) is at last swing high.If we make that 1/2 will be closed and stop bought to break even on remainder in case of fall after double top.If top breaks hopeful of move up to highs of 31st oct.

Hi Lion!

Looks like you have great success with your trading method. I agree with you that system must be strictly mechanical to be successful on a long run. Especially to avoid emotions!! Are you willing to share the system? Some of us would like to follow your trading.

Warm regards, Mark
