Btw, speaking of Yen, and somebody already mentioned it... remember last year around March, with the fiscal year ending in Japan? Don't know if it happens every year (good, gives me something to research instead of watching Princess Diaries), but that was too cool last year - lots of pips to be made! I had just started trading forex (switched from daytrading stocks due to better hours and more volatility), and shorted UJ somewhere in the high 118s if I remember correctly. Then the huge drop, plus more of a drop due to good news from Japan. Ah, I remember that day and night so well! I made so much money from it and was forever hooked on forex (I then proceeded to lose it all (and then some) on a very bad cable call, with no stoploss or money management! whops! I know better now, of course!)

Anyhow, maybe it's time for me to get off cable as well and start playing with Yen again

You know, back in July last year, I, too, was totally on the same page - I thought we wouldn't see 1.9xxx for a long time; heck, just a few months ago, I was pretty sure breaking 2 on the downside would be pretty tough (you know, the whole mental resistance/support thing).

Which brings me back to... good thing we know to trade what we see, not what we think

That's why making money in forex is easy but holding onto it, well it's a different story. When we start thinking and stop paying attention to the charts is where we go wrong and it has happened more than once when I first started.

Anyone happen to know why oil tanked today? Gasoline & heating oil also followed but natural gas went up.

Last year, the yen repatriation coupled with the Chinese meltdown. Yen soared and carry trades put an amazing bottom for months to come. Only tested in Aug with NYSE selloff.

Yen repatriation happens every year and by its end, the "carry trades redemption" starts poping everywhere in the news. This will be time to prepare for a nice entry to hold for the year, at least to swim in the rollover pool...

35ºC here, BTW. I'd better find myself a regular pool.

Last time everybody was waiting for Bernanke's speech, he was in Berlin and talked for like 2 hours about "Global Saving Glut", BSing the market. A selloff followed in disgust.
