ADX is not part of this strategy so I am reluctant to say anything about it in this thread.

Average Directional Movement shows you the trend and it shows you how strong the trend is. When we are sideways like now on the Euro, its a wonderful tool to keep our expectations in check as to how much you can get out of the market eg not to expect huge moves coming. You can play around with the settings eg ADX 2 is very quick.

Blue above red means buy and visa versa when green is inbetween red and blue it means its very safe to enter. Do a google search and you will find tons of good info on this very common indicator.

EVERYONE for the respect of Phillip people keep this chat to the 4hr MACD ONLY, if you want to post something else or trade differently please create a new thread or find one that works for you but I know I am the only one that is sick of seeing people make up trades and say it's part of the 4hr macd and we all know it's not. Don't post that crap here we do not want to read it becuase it has nothing to do with this thread!

I see over the last 3 or so pages, a lot of confusion and trades resulting in losses. With so many newbies around its not a bad thing to have another perspective on actually what is going on.

I didnt say this is part of the 4h macd where did you get that from ? :-)
And what may be crap to you, is a lttle nugget of golden information to someone else.

We are here to help each other not to attack fellow Factory members. If you dont want to read certain posts, then please just ignore it, no need to get on your high horse here and attack me.

yes u'r right i think. a close above 8 cause a TC signal for macd.stop loss should be under 200 and TP can be at high.

But this is a thread about the 4hr system not everything you can think off, anyway good luck I am done posting here for a while, I don't need the help and was trying to help others but some people want to come in here and post anything they want about the market.

I've taken short on GU @ 1.9731. I think it's beautiful setup, we in downtrend, and look this nice small candles on H1 finding resistance on 89 SMA.

Ah fuddle sticks on the USDCAD.

I was waiting for a possible set-up and an hour and a half into the possible long 4 hour bar the trade has almost run to the target price I had in my head.

Damn.

Kudos to anyone who got in on this long.

On the 1H, the first bar of the 4H bar was a very strong bullish bar through both the 21 and 8 MA. It was coming after a spinner bar. Is this normally a good time to enter based on the 1H?

I've just taken this trade in situation you described - that means too late. But I thought there was very strong move up. Now I have 40 pips banked on half, and another on trail stop is running.
But really I don't know if we should do such deal.

Hi FxPip,
Over the last 3 or so pages you see that some people are struggling with reading the indicators of the 4h macd system. Do you think that adding more indicators will help? As far as the trend is concerned, it is determined by moving averages and trendlines - a part of 4h macd system. To all the new people out there: Philip has given us the tools, please STUDY how to use them!

Lol adding more indicators is up to Phillip. If you guys are making money using this system, kudo's to you. Its great to see people understanding why trades results in losses too.

Someone was asking a while ago why are we not getting good signals on this system this week. I do believe this is a system that will work when the market is trending? Am I right ?
As far as I can see I have been following it for a while now) it seems to me when the market is sideways it does become more discrestional and then you look more for market motion or what you guys call it :-)

As my thinking personally is that this is a trending system mainly I think its valuable to know when the market is NOT trending. So many trades lately on here resulted in losses and the amount of questions members still ask on here, tells me that at the moment here is some confusion.

I merely wanted to show that if you once in a while when you are unsure as to what is happening look quickly at the ADX you will know that a trending 4h system will not work in thses current market conditions.

I might be wrong with my analysis. Please enlighten me with your views.

I'm waiting next candle for a "Zero Break" signal on MACD. I'm going to enter short only there. (Phil teaching). I hope this wont occur when I'm sleeping.

Hello everyone. recently it has been hard to tell if people are being Sarcastic about this system or just plain ignorant. ( sorry for my harsh words but it kills me to see people getting distracted from the core of this STRATEGY.It is one thing to try to learn this system and post charts and take trades/ compare notes and make mistakes and learn from them and moving one. It is good to make a sincere effort to learn even if it means that u make some mistakes. But It has been said over and over that this STRATEGY is based on market motion/ emotion/ rhythm. Please avoid sarcasm and word bashing. Please respect each other. Sorry Phillip i know it is not my place to post such a reply , It is your Forum but i think the sincere new comers should not be misguided. Please serious students ignore posts that effect your emotional development as a trader. i am still learning/ novice and do get effected by the bickering. So lets stay focus on what this STRATEGY is all about. thankyou.

Hi guys/gals!

The market does seem to be very sideways at the moment -- and for the majors this is common during the first part of January. People who manage money are starting to get in the groove and are trying to figure out where they will be placing their capital. So, as someone refered to earlier -- it may be the beg. of tsunami time -- and a rhythm may develop here over the next week or so. In the meantime, be patient, plan and practice.

Lately, I've seen some harsh criticism of posts. There are a lot of new people and some may be new traders. Let us all have a little patience and do our best to point out what we think are the demonstrated skills where their trade plan was valid or maybe could have been stronger. Remember, in this game, one trader can be short, one long and both make money -- the key is to manage risk through your stop loss, your entry price and your take profits. Many of us do have additional indicators on our charts, and have had questions regarding them. It is not horrible to answer what the indicator is and very basic use w/a reference to further info. This is part of learning -- which has been a major focus of Phillip's thread -- it is all encompassing -- covering psychology, testing, planning, analyzing, etc. Please, let us go into the new year respectful of one another. I may not always agree w/someone's trade -- but who am I to say their points for entry are invalid? Especially if they have been testing, and their trade follows their plan? To me -- someone following their plan, even if it is stopped, is someone who made a good trade. I may question your actions if it appears you are chasing multiple trades in a somewhat desperate manner -- but that is to get you to think about what you are doing and how you are approaching the market -- never to criticize you as a trader. That is not our role as forum co-workers. Lastly, as a discretionary system, their are tricks that each trader uses to identify what works best for them in their analysis -- this is info we have readily shared. Look back -- you will see their is more than just MACD signal talk here. In all honesty, the info on this thread is a comprehensive trading lesson covering every important aspect of trader development. If you were to go somewhere to find the info, you would pay thousands of dollars to a mentor. Phillip has done it freely. The contributors have taken their time to do it freely. Let us all appreciate what is shared, take what serves us individually, and move past what doesn't -- but ALWAYS BE GREATFUL TO ONE ANOTHER FOR SHARING INFORMATION!

Let us continue to be a great community of like-minded traders who want to learn from one another. We are all equal here -- we are all students of the market striving to be better at what we do. We have also had some laughs on the forum on our journey -- I hope that this too will continue, and we will all grow together in a fun and co-operative spirit.

Hi again!

A few pages back there was a brief discussion on the zero cross & it not being part of Phillip's system. I'd like to add a couple of comments b/c that particular comment is probably due to me

Yes, the zero cross is not a MACD signal in Phillip's original pdf. It also is not a "made up signal." Last year (early summer?) I did a lot of testing and one of the things I tested was E/J and posted on this site. The journal references zero crosses as an entry signal and was very effective. It is in my tool box as a potential momentum signal for a shift in direction and has often produced trades with large (100+) rewards. It was also discussed on the forum and I posted my observations and use of it -- especially when the MACD had formed a RB from an extreme level and the MACD has crossed -- quickly, I consider it a change in momentum and often can indicate a change in direction. When the market is in rhythm, and when the market shows price action per my "red flag" signals (ie. rejection of resistance, break of support, break of resistance) -- I take a zero cross as a valid signal.

So, I appologize to the newer poster who was accused of making up signals. This was not the case -- instead, they were posting something they most likely had seen referenced within previous posts. As with all aspects of a discretionary system, one must test for themselves and see what the objective results are. Test on paper, test on demo and test live. The only way many of us learn to trade is by experiencing it ourselves -- we learn a bit from reading, but learn most from doing! Good luck and may all your trades produce positive results!!
