This is not meant to be a political post, but more of general look at the U.S. presidential campaign.
The primaries are taking place today in New Hampshire. Mc Cain looks like he'll get the GOP and Obama may get the Democrat nomination (according to the powers that be). I was in Concord (the capitial of New Hampshire) yesterday and was surprised by the engagement by the masses.
But, unfortunately when I asked a Ron Paul supporter about what her sign "Taxation through Inflation" meant, I got the answer "Well, uh it's about the fact that we are spending millions abroad on charity and that makes it all more expensive here and uh....". when I asked her to be more specific, she refered me to the scientific community, "There are scientists who know that it works... just trust them (me). But I'm not good with explaining fact and concepts." (Then why the bloody hell are you involved in politics??? <- I didn't actually say this). Then I gave her an explanation about Monetary policy, supply and demand of money and how this relates to inflation...Economics 101 stuff. "I was about to say that!!! she interrupted with force."
I have the feeling that people think that they are rooting for a certain baseball team when they stand behind a candidate. In the meanwhile, the candiates are playing a game, but a different game, and one which can decide the quality of our lives.
Proud to be an American? We'll see.
