I think so. Yesterday it was Goldman reporting good Q4 (in spite of lousy November). These reports weigh on the market big time, so it's likely to go bumpy as gains / loss take turns in the headlines.

Hovnanian said an accounting determination resulted in a $54 million tax expense in the quarter instead of an expected $162 million benefit, for a $216 million swing.


I know one accountant who won't be having a good holidays....

I wonder what Wall Street wiil think of this today:

Merrill Lynch may be forced to pre-announce another big writedown of mortgage-related losses in the coming days or weeks, according to senior people at the firm.
As previously reported, the brokerage giant may write down anywhere from $3 billion to $6 billion in additional losses besides the $8.4 billion announced in November. That could bring the total writedown to more than $14 billion.
Companies generally pre-announce some details of their quarterly results to give investors ample notice that bad news may be on the horizon and avoid a sharp decline in share price when the earnings are actually reported. (well that's nice to know)

153 pips on Gbp/Nzd. 93 pips on Eur/Nzd. Kiwi's been berry berry good to me. Looking to short Nzd/Usd ahead of the 7600 let's see what happens. Last final today so perhaps I'll be able to pay more attention after today. Good pippin' to all.

Nice to see someone making money.

I am only playing with my open positions in GY, GU, EY, EC and AU. Still have my GU open from 2.1085. I am still expecting more downside. Let's see what happens. The markets are going to keep on ranging until after the new year. After that, we should have a better idea as to where what direction the currencies will go.

Bad News:
Dec. 19 (Bloomberg) -- Morgan Stanley, the second-biggest U.S. securities firm, reported a fourth-quarter loss of $3.56 billion, the first in the company's history, after $9.4 billion of writedowns on mortgage-related investments.


Good News:
Chief Executive Officer John Mack is forgoing a bonus for the year and called the results ``deeply disappointing.'' Morgan Stanley received a $5 billion investment from China Investment Corp., the nation's sovereign wealth fund, the New York-based company said today in a statement. Morgan Stanley rose 38 cents to $48.45 in early New York trading.
