scott is there a way to do this? i dont think we can do a 1-5 start rating. it just has to be "what is your favorite book" kinda thing. but you CAN set up the poll so that you can have multiple selections, maybe that will help.

Trading In The Global Currency Markets. Second Edition

I liked this book very much, a good over view as well as a refresher on TA and FA.

I think there was a book review thread somewhere with most of the books in it.

May I please ask which one you mean, I looked on Amazon, and he has several.

Is it: Trading in the Global Currency Markets Second Edition by Cornelius Luca ?

I will recomend Trading Chaos Maximize profits with proven technical techniques from Bill and Justine Williams.
Trading in the zone from Mark Douglas
and Elder's book were my first to read.
Very inspiring for me are the trading books from Daryl Guppy.
Forex trading for maximum profit from Raghee Horner

On a different note, those books are all pretty expensive. Any of you care to turn lose of some? Unless of course you use them as reference.I be happy to pay. Actually, if the honor system worked, we could cycle the books thru all of us....(day dreaming here).

I think the best way to do this would be to catagorise the books in a star rating pole. The above list covers various areas and levels so if we could compile a poll people could just go to the start of the thread and look at best books.

Even better if you could link a bookmark from the pole to threads regarding the books and forex factory members reviews.

Everything on MarkJ's list is reccommended reading, but I'll add A few more that seam to have escaped the list.

Technical Analysis of the Financial Markets by John Murphy, a good solid intro to TA, although nothing in it that cant be obtained for free from 1001 websites but a nice reference to dip into occassionally.

Reminiscences of a stock operator, by Livermore and Day Traders Bible by Richard Wyckhoff are two books that initially baffled the hell out of me, but make more and more sense as time passes.

I rather like The Logical Trader by Mark Fischer, I bought it hoping he'd reveal the holy grail, which of course he dosnt but some good content non the less.

Mentioned before but anything by Perry Kaufman for those interested in developing automated trading strategies. The book by Chuck Le Beau is also a reasonably gentle intoduction into this area

The Trading Game by Ryan Jones is a good starting point for anyone interested in money management, and I think its available for free from his website.

Dynamic Technical Analysis of the Financial Markets by Phillipe Cahen is a nice book too, but you might need to learn french to read it, so a good one for your personal development, learn a new language, and learn a solid robust trading methodology as a bonus.

For anyone just starting out, there really are only 3 books needed, Alex Elders come into my trading room, either of the jack schwager books and Trading in the Zone by Mark Douglas. Everything you'll ever need is contained within those few thousand pages. Most will waste years and thousands of dollars on ebooks and courses and mentors before that truth finally dawns

On reflection, Id say that the most important information is probably contained within 2 or 3 key sentances in chapter 7 of Douglas's book, the remaining 99.99% of content serves no purpose other to baffle, confuse and hide the relevant detail. There used to be a couple of interviews with Mark Douglas available on the woodies CCI website, which are probably well worth listening to for anyone who perhaps hasnt read the book.

If you are an absolute newbie like I was, I recommend these two:

Day Trading the Currency Market by Kathy Lien
Technical Analysis for Dummies by Barbara Rockefeller

Neither of them will help you develop a trading methodology, but they help explain Forex Markets and the difference between Technical Analysis and Fundamental Analysis.

Also:
Technical Analysis of the Financial Markets by John Murphy
Elliot Wave Principle by A.J. Frost and Robert Prechter

These two are not for the faint of heart.

I don't think any books will really teach you how to trade. I think your best bet is to read all the free stuff online about technical and fundamental analysis, then open up a demo and find your way. All the stuff i've found that has helped me trading has been from forums, online articles and most of all, actual trading.
