USD Trade Balance

I would like to know something about the definition about this posted on the FF calendar. When they say that a rising trend is good for the currency, do they mean better than last year, or positive?

the FF calendar says the previous one was -64.3b. THe forecast for this next one will be about -63. I know this is a rising trend but it is still -ve. Can someone help me out here?

The balance of trade (or net exports, NX) is the difference between the monetary value of exports and imports in an economy over a certain period of time. yea...i mean if its less -ve then thats a rising trend. Also, there is just being -ve and that is a bad trend. So when they say on FF calendar a rising trend, it just means that the number is better than before/projected right?
