Same, it requires a lot of effort and time; for me, it took 2 years of constant looking at the market.
I did not do back testing, only forward testing, but it was slow and exhausting as the market opened for 5 days.
I observe the market every day, how my EA behaves, what mistakes it is doing then the whole weekend fixing them.
Then again, testing. It was slow, but at the end I am satisfied.
