Late to this thread but digging the long-form approach you take on Ichi, Moody.
I've spent the past year systematically backtesting Ichi setups on forex (EURJPY, EURUSD, GBPUSD, USDJPY, AUDUSD) across 5-10 years of M1 data. A few patterns I keep seeing that might help anyone reading this in 2026:
1. Kumo breakout alone has a weak win rate on 5min (around 42-47% on most pairs in my tests). What actually moves the needle is the Chikou Span confirmation, requiring Chikou to be clear of 26 periods of price action BEFORE entry bumps win rate by 10-14%. Most retail Ichi traders skip this filter and then wonder why breakouts fail.
2. Ichi dies in ranging markets. The cloud flattens and you'll get 5-6 consecutive fakeouts. My backtests show a simple filter (skip trades when cloud thickness drops below 0.8x ATR14) removes 60% of losers while keeping 85% of winners. Profit factor jumps from 1.1 to 1.6 on EURJPY 5min from that one filter alone.
3. On higher TFs (4H, Daily) Ichi is more forgiving. Same breakout rules on Daily EURUSD 2016-2025 give 52% win rate with 2.1R/R and profit factor 1.8. But you get maybe 4-6 signals per year per pair. Trade-off between frequency (5min) and reliability (Daily) is real.
4. Tenkan/Kijun cross is overhyped. Same dataset, TK cross alone (no cloud/Chikou confirmation) is basically coin flip. People love it because it looks clean on charts but statistically it's noise.
One question for Moody or anyone running Ichi seriously: do you adjust the 9/26/52 periods or stick to defaults? I've seen conflicting research on whether optimizing Ichi periods is curve-fitting or genuine adaptation. My own tests were inconclusive, 9/26/52 sometimes beats 7/22/44, sometimes loses to it, no consistent pattern.
