Porting MT4 -> Any package frankly

Hi,

I've used MT4 for years but would like to start trading ETFs so it looks like I'm going to need to move away from MT4.

I only use 1 x indicator to trade with. It's a supply/demand indicator written many years ago by "bredin" and is called, II_Supdem.mq4.

Although Supdem is fantastic, as my trading developed I realised there was a need for additional filtering not available in the original indicator. I therefore paid a developer to write a piece of code to do that. I am very happy with my system and don't wish to use any other version of a supply/demand indicator out there.

Regardless of what charting package I end up trading with; cTrader, MT5, TradingView etc etc, I want to be able to load Supdem + my monitor indie, and have them behave exactly as they do now in MT4. I suppose what I need is a universal version of Supdem + my monitor.

I've had a "chat" with "Claude" to try and understand what my options are to achieving the above, but I'm afraid my understanding of this kind of thing is very limited. I now suspect a universal version may not be achievable, and that every instance would need tweaking depending on the broker and the charting package they offer.

Can any of you guys that understand this kind of thing shed a bit of light on the subject and let me know best ways forward?

Universal solution is to have a version for each platform

First you need to decide on broker, then platform.
ETF - you'll probably end up with Interactive Brokers and Trader Workstation (which don't support custom indicators). But there are platforms with IBKR integration like ATAS, NinjaTrader, MultiCharts, etc
CFD on ETF - could be MT5 or cTrader, ...

E.g both ATAS and cTrader use C# as their underlying programming language, but API is different. So one won't work on another.

The easiest 'approximate' solution could be Pinescript; TV has 10s of thousands of tickers, analyze there and trade on whatever platform your broker offers.
Ask Claude to convert your indis to Pine, if the result satisfies you then that's the way to go - or at least the best place to start from

I've been dipping in and out of trading ETFs with IG on their web-based platform, but it doesn't allow custom indicators unfortunately. I would have liked to stay with IG, the solution being to port my MT4 to MT5 and carry on trading ETFs that way. But on further inspection their ETF offering on MT5 is very limited. I can't really understand their rationale for that, but it is what it is.

Pepperstone appear to offer a full range of ETFs on MT5 so I'm considering porting across to the them. I had thought about the solution you suggested where I would generate signals on one platform and trade on another. That might still be a solution down the line but if I can get Claude to do a basic porting in the interim I think that can be a good halfway point. I'm trying to keep the process as simple as possible!
