How prop firms know if I copy trading between different firms?

Short answer: they don’t need to “see” your copier — your trade behavior gives it away.
Here’s how prop firms usually catch copy trading between different firms, even when accounts are on different platforms or FCMs
Trade-pattern fingerprinting (the biggest one)
Prop firms run backend analytics that look for statistically impossible similarities:

1. Same instrument
2. Same direction
3. Same entry price (or within 1 tick)
4. Same entry time (often within milliseconds–seconds)
5. Same exit logic (TP/SL hits at same levels)
6. Same position sizing ratios

If two accounts at different firms do this consistently, it’s not “good trading” — it’s machine-level correlation.
Humans don’t enter GC at 1987.4 on 12 different accounts within 300 ms repeatedly.
Timing consistency (latency tells on you)
Even if prices differ slightly:

1. Copier → follower delay is stable
2. Manual trading → delay is random

Firms look for:

1. Constant 50–300 ms lag

Even with VPNs:

1. Same machine fingerprint

This alone won’t get you banned — but combined with trade correlation, it seals the case.
Cross-firm data sharing (yes, it happens)
This surprises people.
Some firms:

2. Use the same clearing firms
3. Share anonymized fraud patterns
4. Flag trader IDs internally

You don’t need to violate rules at Firm A for Firm B to get suspicious.
Statistical thresholds (why “once or twice” is fine)
Important nuance
Prop firms don’t care about occasional overlap.
They care about:
