Disliked{quote} Nice version TT. I hadn't heard that one. I wonder why they changed 1970s to 1917 though. Bit bizarre. Did they just hear Neil wrong?Ignored
Hi Danger,
Mate I thought EXACTLY the same thing when I heard them sing 1917
My Brave AI web search came up with this (unverified)
"Prelude did not change the date to 1917; the confusion arises from a mishearing of the lyrics. In the original Neil Young song, the line is "Look at Mother Nature on the run / In the 1970s". However, Prelude's a cappella version (1974) famously sings "in the 1917", due to the elongated pronunciation of "seventeen" in their vocal delivery. This has led many listeners to believe the band intentionally changed the date.
The band themselves have stated they did not alter the lyric—it was simply a misinterpretation of the vocal phrasing. As noted in multiple sources, the syllable "teen" is held long and clearly ends with an 'n', confirming the correct pronunciation is "nineteen seventeen" in their version. This has become a well-known anecdote among fans, with some even preferring the mistaken interpretation as a poetic nod to World War I."
Well I don't know about you D-M but I, like you, did NOT misinterpret or mishear anything hahaa
They sing 1917 for sure and I've listened to their version umpteen times.
One of those weird situations to which we shall never know the answer I reckon.
(ps Neil himself changed the date later when he sung it, to using "21st century", while there is no mishearing there as he deliberately changed it with the times
All the best pal.
