Golden-Cross Trading-Idea

Hi @ENoris, started looking at the Dashboard on live charts and it looks impressive.

Am trying to understand what the dashboard is showing and interpret the signals based on the description given in the manual for the three visual elements. However, I've struck a problem understanding some of the signals. The below examples hopefully make it clear.

1. In this first example, CADJPY H4 chart, the dashboard shows an Up arrow. The indicator on the chart shows an Up arrow for the current bar, however, this bar is not complete. The arrow on the nearest completed bar is a Down arrow. The manual states that the arrows are based on 'the completed bar turned bearish, while the previous one was bullish." Based on this I would have expected the dashboard to show a Down arrow.




2. Second example, AUDUSD D1 chart. Here again the dashboard shows an Up arrow while the most recent completed bar on indicator shows a Down arrow (for the current bar is not complete). Once again, reason per above, I would have expected the dashboard to show a Down arrow.



Would be grateful for advise on whether I'm reading and interpreting the information correctly.

I hope they will help clarify what the dashboard is showing. (As per my limited knowledge)

The best suggestion I can give to you and others is to select lower timeframes such as M1, M5, M15, or combinations like M5, M15, M30 in the dashbaord (Strictly for testing, learning, and understanding the dashboard behaviour.)

By doing this, instead of waiting for H4 or D1 candles to close, you can observe how the dashboard reacts much more quickly and compare its signals with what you see on the chart smGoldenCrossSlope indicator. This significantly reduces testing and observation time and makes it easier to understand how the signals are generated.

On the chart Magenta line is the 5 LWMA AvgClose line, SeaGreen Line is 5 LWMA AvgOpen Line. I got to know this after a long time, as one normally thinks, when green is above magenta, its Golden Cross but its other way round.

When Magenta (AvgClose) is above SeaGreen (AvgOpen) its shows that previosuly Bullish/Golden Cross has happened and vice versa

One can get a lot of valuable information by hovering the mouse on the objects plotted by the indicators on the chart.

I would also like to repeat again that I am not a coder expert or a programmer, and while the dashboard works as intended, the code may contain bugs or glitches. For this reason, please make sure to thoroughly test everything on a demo account first and do not make any trading decisions based solely on the dashboard without your own confirmation and testing.
This Dashboard should not be considered as a replacement for any of the George's Indicators.

Thank you ENoris for the dashboard, this could be really useful! I am still trying to fully understand, but what I face now is that it barely shows any trades. For now, I am focusing on H4 LONG trades by looking at:

1. W1 and D1 on the dashboard: bright green bullets (uptrend).
2. Entry TF H4: green bullet AND aqua up arrow AND number 1–3.
3. On the chart: Slope shows bold green bars.
4. Panel shows a Buy‑Stop price.
5. Action: place a pending Buy‑Stop at the panel’s Entry; use the panel’s StopLoss and Breakeven.

As of now (based on my current watchlist), only CADJPY is close to a buy trade. If I am correct I should wait on the next H4 open to see if the H4 bullet turns green; if that is the case I should enter, am I right?

I am very curious if i'm overseeing something or it's just hard to find trades this way.

Let me try to clarify how the dashboard elements work and why trades may appear rare at first.

Dashboard Elements
1) 108 Winding
This shows the colour of the latest/ current histogram bar of smGoldenCrossSlope_2.1
Green / SkyBlue / Silver / Red / Light Pink = Current state of the last histogram bar

2 (233/234 Winding – Middle Arrow)
This shows the current status of the Up / Down arrow on the indicator
It only apears if the cross is happening on th elatest bar
Aqua Up Arrow = bullish cross happening on the current candle
Red Down Arrow = bearish cross happening on the current candle
No arrow = no active cross on the current candle
Please note that the middle arrow only appears while the cross is happening on the current (still forming) candle. Once the candle closes, the arrow disappears because the cross is then considered confirmed.
3 (Bar Counter)
This shows how many candles ago the last confirmed cross occurred
The Number = bars since the last confirmed cross
The colour = direction of that confirmed cross (Aqua for bullish, red for bearish)

(CADJPY H1)
Current display:
CADJPY H1 → Silver 108 | No Middle Arrow | Red 8
Last histogram bar is Silver
No active cross on the current candle
Last confirmed cross was bearish, 8 candles ago

Now suppose price rises and AvgClose crosses above AvgClose during the current candle:
CADJPY H1 → Silver 108 | Aqua Up Arrow | Green 8
Last histogram bar is Silver
A bullish cross is forming on the current candle, the candle is not closed yet, so the cross is still unconfirmed
Bar counter colour changes to green

Once the candle closes, the dashboard updates to:
CADJPY H1 → Silver 108 | No Middle Arrow | Green 1
Last histogram bar is Silver
Bullish cross is now confirmed, middle arrow disappears because the cross is no longer “in progress”
Counter resets to 1
Middle arrow disappears because the cross is no longer “in progress”

There are scenarios where a cross occurs on consecutive candles and may not be visually obvious on the chart even when zooming in. However, mathematically the cross has occurred, which can be verified by:
Consecutive Up / Down arrows on the histogram
Checking the Data Window values (very important for correct interpretation)

@Jakekh, you are not overlooking anything, Golden Cross Method is a strict, trend aligned system, so trades will naturally be fewer on the higher time frames.

To better understand behaviour of the dashboard and reduce waiting time, I strongly suggest (ONLY for testing and learning)
Use M1, M5, M15 timeframes
Load fewer symbols or remove unused pairs from Market Watch

This allows you to quickly see how bullets, arrows, and counters evolve without waiting for H4 or D1 candles to close.

VERY VERY IMPORTANT:
Please note DO NOT base trades soley on smGoldenCross Slope indictaor or this dashboard as both theindicator and the dashboard are for confirmation, and to be used in conjuction with the two main indictaors i.e smGolgenCrossSignals and smGoldenCrossTrend which are core for the Golden Cross Method.

Also please keep in mind as I have saying this repeatedly, I am not a coder / programmer, the dashboard works as intended, but bugs or glitches are possible. Always do thorough demo testing before making any trading decisions

Whenever I get some free time and feel better health wise, I will try to enhance the dashboard, improve clarity and will make small adjustments where possible.

I am still learning and experimenting myself, and I’ll continue improving it whenever time allows.

Hope this helps clarify things.

Latest two trades taken yesterday and allowed to run with TP and SL set, and a trailing stops added.

1. EURUSD


Long entry at system set level, closed at TP level for +64.6 pips.

2. GBPAUD


Long entry, exit at SL for -15.6 pips.

Trade Review
In the first trade the system rules were adhered to, resulting in profit.
In the 2nd trade focus seemed to have been lost, and rules were not adhered to. The entry was pre-empted, direction of both current and higher time frames were not adequately considered, and direction of the slope indicator was not taken into account, thereby leading to a failed trade. The only redeeming factor was that the loss was small.

A lesson learnt: Strictly adhere to the rules.

Sorry as I am unable to understand these images, seems like you have coded some sort of Expert Advisor.

I am not a coder / programmer, so unfortunately I cant help you with what you are aksing , the best will be to wait for George aka SwingMan to respond (time permitted), might be he will able to help you with your query.

Congratulations on your first post in 2026, first post in this thread , and on choosing a truly valuable thread to start with. (Your first post in the ForexFactory too)

This is a relatively short thread (less than 50 pages), so I strongly recommend taking the time to read and reread it carefully, with special emphasis on the posts by George (aka SwingMan), who has very generously shared his knowledge and experience here.

Please keep in mind that there are no shortcuts. The Golden Cross concept, including the logic, rules, examples, and indicators, has already been clearly explained and well documented throughout the thread.

Before trading live, it’s advisable to take at least “X” demo trades to become familiar with the indicators, the setup’s behavior, and proper trade management.

As a reminder, consistent trading success rests on MIND, MONEY, and METHOD:

1. Method has already been provided by SwingMan
2. Money management must be defined and followed strictly
3. Mind (discipline and patience) is developed through practice and experience

Kindly post a full screenshot of your chart. Also, share an image of the indicators you are using in your template, as this will help in diagnosing the issue.

1. Try restarting MT4/PC to see if that resolves the problem.
2. If the issue still persists, open a new chart and apply the template.
3. If the issue continues, open a blank chart and add the indicators one by one to identify the cause.
4. Check your screen resolution.

I think you referring to @SwingMan' indicator smGoldenCross_Signal v8.3?

That looks like an old common problem for some users of MT4 and Microsoft Windows.

Your simple question requires only simple answer:

NO.

This thread/strategy is less than 3 years old. Started in Feb 2023 by @SwingMan who has 24 threads in Forex Factory.
In my humble opinion, this thread is not for new traders and beginners to learn how to trade retail spot forex. At minimum, traders need to be at the level above the intermediate-level and know the how the markets work.

Why there is no track record is obvious. The number of members trading @SwingMan's version of GoldenCross with 5LWMA Open / Close .. are very few just by reading @SwingMan posts and the answers he made to questions and discussions in this threads. There seems not too much interest here. IF there more interest here, I am sure @SwingMan would be more active in his posts replies when members post their charts for sharing and discussion.

A track record to me means that a trading strategy has to be traded over a period of 3 to 5 years to allow the strategy to tested in all market type conditions. At minimum, I want to see 1,000 trades completed over the specific period of the market.

What you can do is to back-test and forward-test the strategy and learn on your own and determine if you can trade @SwingMan' version of GoldenCross and develop a winning system that would fit you.

Do your own back-test!

Do your own research on Golden Cross and Death Cross.

During this holiday period, I have some free time and, since I enjoy writing, I decided to share this post as it may help new members starting in 2026 set realistic expectations and goals, and offer some encouragement.

I want to be clear from the start
I am a beginner and a learner myself. I learn every day and try to take positives from everyone here. I do not claim to have spent 10,000 hours trading, nor have I taken 1,000 trades. This post is simply a reflection of what I have learned and I am learning along the way. (My journey started on Mar 21, 2025, less than 10 Months)

Golden Cross Method is not about adding more indicators, seeking guarantees, or constantly changing rules. It works when a trader executes the same edge consistently over a meaningful sample size.

No trading approach can be judged by a handful of trades or isolated examples. Golden Cross Method , like any rule based method, is a probability based framework. Its effectiveness only becomes visible when it is traded repeatedly, using consistent rules and controlled risk.

If you have studied this whole thread (all the posts by George and his Golden Cross Method indictaors) and understand the logic, the most important step is to trade it exactly as designed. Changing templates, adding filters, or modifying rules mid stream destroys consistency and makes any evaluation meaningless.

Your eyes and your mind must see the same Golden Cross indicators and template again and again so behaviour becomes familiar and decisions become objective.

For members starting out new , it is essential to define a REALISTIC goal of taking a fixed number of trades (for example, 10, 20,50 trades) before drawing conclusions.

One losing trade or even several does not invalidate a method. Trading outcomes must be assessed over a series of trades, not judged trade by trade. Only after completing a planned sample size should performance be reviewed and refined. Risk management and journaling are non negotiable. In start keep risk small, record every trade, and review execution honestly.

Confidence is built through repetition and discipline, not through external validation or popularity. There are many threads on Forex Factory with hundreds or even thousands of pages. If quality were judged purely by page count, everyone would be rushing there but we all know that is not how trading works.

As George (SwingMan) himself stated:

This highlights an important truth: a method does not need widespread adoption or public track records to be valid. What matters is whether a trader can understand it, test it properly, and apply it consistently within their own trading plan.

For more intermediate and experienced traders, progress comes from improving execution, timing, and trade management not from constantly altering the core Golden Cross structure. The framework remains stable and the trader evolves.

My suggestion to everyone starting with this method Avoid template and indicator syndrome.
Price is the primary indicator, and the latest versions of the Golden Cross indicators provided by SwingMan are sufficient. Simplicity promotes clarity, and clarity supports discipline. Treat trading like a business. Focus on process over individual outcomes. Consistency is not a strategy , it is a skill developed over time.
