This is so cool. I just recently started noticing a similar phenomenon trading seconds timeframes on NQ. When a box-like structure appears, it seems that more often than not breakout goes in the direction of the 2 or 3 minute timeframe momentum.

I would highly recommend that you find a time period that best fits you if you look at candles and to see the ocean waves.
In a trend up or down, if you look at candles long enough on your chart you going to start to see the waves.
Say if the trend is going higher, the waves are telling you to buy the dip of the wave.
If you do buy the dip, I also highly recommend that you take a profit in a range of 10-12 points just to be safe.
There is always tomorrow. Rome and that built in a day thing is true.

In the past, I would ask other traders what time frame do they trade. If the most common time frame was the 2 minute chart. I would look for another time frame to trade. The reason I say this is, more than likely they’ll be a lot more traders on the 2 minute chart. The more traders the bigger the herd. Wall Street will go after the bigger herd.
It’s a war everyday and it’s starts at 9:30am.
After my first trade of the day which is after 10am I get up from my desk and go outside and clear my head. I’ll take a 10-15 minutes brake and then go back and see
what’s changed. My first trade is 10-12 points. I take small trades every single time. In and out. If you want to make a living trading that’s what you do. Small trades add up at the end of trading. Plus, it helps keep you from being trapped trading NQ. If you’re not in the trade, they can’t trap you.

Hi Pokerchip, it’s been a while since I posted here, looks like you have moved to futures NQ in particular and changed time frames and strategy for trading. It’s good to adapt to what suits you the best over time. Iam glad it’s working for you.
i also don’t trade currencies anymore and have moved on to options and futures - snp500 in particular.
i use the larger time frames 1 hr, 4 and daily , and look at 15 min before placing trades.

my trades are usually 1-2 weeks holding time , but depending on my targets I might close them earlier.

can you pls post some images with this on your chart as an example - maybe one for a buy trade , how it worked out and maybe one for sell trade and it’s progression

In time you will figure out your trading strategy. When the market opens at 9:30am, trade your strategy. Never trade your emotion. Trading your emotions will make you lose every time.

After the herd has been diminished. Now the best trades come. The breakout that you’ve been waiting will happen. All you have to do is be patient and wait for it.

When price is at a crossroads. This happens a lot. Look at the chart, 15 minute chart will help. Ask yourself this question. What would be the maximum majority of pain inflicted on ? The buyer or seller. “ This is the herd “.
If you know the correct answer, then you can enter the trade.

If you are not sure of the direction. Go to the previous daily candle and draw the Fibonacci extension. This will help you.

Trading NQ futures, knowing the correct trend will save you from disaster. It’s not necessary to know the future, you just have to know what the NQ futures are doing now. The meaning of now is the next 10-20 points. Because that’s all you need to make a living trading. On my 52 inch monitor I have NQ on the left and ES on the right. To my left is my stock list and I have NVDA at eye level. If ES is pushing higher under normal conditions NQ will follow. Then comes NVDA, if it’s trying to push higher, odds are then a NQ buy is going to be the right move.
I’ll wait until at least 10am for my first trade. It’s the safe way to go. I want to see momentum by ES before I enter a trade, if the volume is there on ES and NQ then I will quickly enter and exit grabbing 10 points. I’m interested in 1-2 trades. Trading isn’t a sprint, it’s a marathon. Once you understand this way of trading you will be a successful trader. Remember this, if you are a prop trader. The prop firm wants you to fail, that’s how they stay in business. They want you to gamble, that’s why they have the 1 day pass.
NQ will gap up 30-40 points or more then it will fill that gap at some point. You want to trade the middle of that move. Don’t sell the bottom and don’t buy at the top. On the 5 minute NQ will take its time after making a new high after a reversal. It’s usually 20 to 30 minutes, the reason for this, they are trapping retail traders for the next move. It’s best to wait until the real move comes. Then enter that trade.
If you have no idea of the trend direction, it’s best to walk away from the computer and come back in 15 minutes. Most traders won’t do this.

Here’s what I do to prepare for the next trading day.
After summer is over, in the fall season I turn my thermostat back to 65. I sleep well at 65 degrees. When I wake up and that’s early, I take magnesium glycinate and I’ll eat some breakfast. Magnesium glycinate helps me stay relaxed and patient.
I won’t turn my computer on until 9am. I don’t want to be bias about price. This has helped me stay neutral.

The smaller the lot size bet, the bigger the chance that you’ll become profitable in trading. Prop firms want you to bet big. That’s why they give you huge lots to bet with.
The small bet is the safest way to go. You don’t want to keep buying evaluations the rest of your life do you ? A
4 micros bet with 10-12 point exit. If you can make 4-5 profitable bets in an evaluation each day. You should pass in 11-12 days.

If you trade NQ Futures. When you get time over the weekend. Look at the weekly chart. Mark the high and low of the weekly candle using the wicks. This week the bottom of the weekly candle wick was penetrated, then pushed above the bottom line.
The coming week, I’m looking for NQ Futures to push higher.
If it was just the opposite and price pushed above the prior weekly high. I would be looking to sell.

Every trader has their favorite way to trade. I’m going to tell what I think one of the best indicators that we all can use and the best thing about this indicator is that it works differently on every chart. Which keeps you out of the herd.
The indicator is called “ patience “.
If you use your patience indicator carefully you can be very a successful trader.
I’m not the best trader, but I’ll wait hours to make a trade. Like today, I made a couple of momentum trades early, then I waited almost 5 hours to make my 3rd and final trade.
This is what have to do to win trades on the 5 minute chart.

Patience is definitely very important to cherry pick trades and pull the trigger when they agree to
1. your rule system
2. risk vs reward is good
3. clear goal as to when to exit, take profit exit
