No, they were just using the angle of price on the chart. It's the same as just drawing a linear regression line across all chart bars.

Trading was really very simple in the old days when floor trading was dominant before electronic took over.

If something big was going on... Some big news, a rumour spreading, some hype about some company earning, or even something like everyone getting panicky about a big "head and shoulders pattern break"... Everyone was quickly in the know. People would even step out and do massive buys or sells on the floor to try to trigger breakouts and breakdowns.

The game was just to try to get in and get out... Try to capture some of the action. Everyone usually quickly figured out the story of what the action was all about.

Today's world of electronic trading is much different. Everyone has nostalgia for the old days, but markets always change over time.

so basically what your saying is that when you see 2 big green candles, you can quickly deduce and dig up some paperwork on the responsible parties, drive around to the responsible parties office and shove a mic in front of them and get the whole story, Im not sure if you are being serious here but this does not happen except in some teenage fantasy. Even if you got one story out of one candle, there are still another 1000 candles around the corner for you to vet and create a story out of. None of this is helpful

Sorry but this is completely false. There are many analysts who know the story behind the FX movements but still can't turn that information & knowledge into profits. Many of these guys work for banks and financial institutions where they have direct access to this information, but there's a reason why they're analysts and not traders.

When I was heavy into the fundamentals and "getting the story", I was a breakeven trader at best. My trading didn't become profitable until I could read a chart (technical analysis) and recognize when the market was moving against my position.

In other words, adapting to market movements is the much more important skill for traders.
