Just a quick clarification, this isn’t my thread or my method this is George's (SwingMan) thread and his Golden Cross/SmallWick method.

We all owe him a big thanks for selflessly sharing his work. I’m just a beginner, learning as I go and sharing what I’ve understood so far.

George has shared a lot of valuable insights in this thread and on Forex Factory. What I’m doing here is simply a small token of appreciation, keeping the thread active, organizing notes, and helping where I can.

I’m short on screen time due to some recent health issues, I plan to shift from H4 to D1 to further reduce screen time and keep things simple.

Please always do your own due diligence, test on your side, double check the rules, and reconfirm anything I say against George’s posts. His original post/notes carry more weight than my interpretations.

No rush on your updates. Study the thread, and post your charts and observations when you’re ready. The more we all test, post, and provide feedback, the faster we’ll refine our understanding. I’m confident that once there’s enough interest and thorough testing, George may consider automating it into an EA.

Just one observation:
I noticed in the chart you posted, the lot size is shown as 195.29

For XAUUSD, even with high leverage and a large capital account, that lot size doesn’t seem right to me.

Also, the tick value in your chart is 0.01 USD per tick, which could be due to as per my limited knowedge.

1) Contract Size Difference, some brokers define 1 lot of Gold = 100 ounces, then 1 point (0.01 move) = 1 USD per lot while others define 1 lot of Gold = 1 ounce, then 1 point (0.01 move) = 0.01 USD per lot.

2) Symbol Variants, you might be using a symbol like XAUUSD.m (or another suffix) that has different specifications.

For comparison, I’ve attached my D1 Gold chart where the lot size is 0.21 with a trading capital of 100,000.

George has updated the indicator with the correct formula for lot size. I think you need to delete the old .ex4 file and replace it with the latest updated version, refresh/ restart MT4 and hopefully that should give the correct lot size.

Good Day George / Other Members,

I’ve put together a User Guide / Manual for the indicator smGoldenCross Slope_v2.1.

Similar to what I did last weekend for smGoldenCross Trend_v2.2 (shared here), this exercise helps me strengthen my own understanding of the Slope indicator, both its concepts and practical use.

The purpose of this guide is also to help users quickly grasp the key ideas and see how the smGoldenCross Slope indicator can be applied effectively in combination with the Golden Cross Method.

I hope this makes it easier for others to understand the essentials and apply them in practice.

I will try my best to prepare similar notes/guides for the other core indicators of the Golden Cross Method and share them here as they’re ready (time and health permitting).

Enhancement Suggestion to George:
If this indicator could be converted into an MTF (Multi Timeframe) version, so that for example, on an H4 chart the higher timeframe D1 slope histogram and arrows could also be plotted, it might further reduce false signals. Arrows that align with the higher timeframe could then be given more weight in decision making.

Request to all members and visitors:
Please test, share your charts, and post your experiences so that we can all learn from each other.

Hi everyone, I've read and reread the thread and the summaries/instructions, but I'm having a hard time understanding everything. In the image i posted, I think I understood that the value circled in red is a price level for a reversal trade. That is, if you're long and the price reverses to the circled price level, you close everything and go short. Is this correct? What do all the red circles under the long price and the dark circles upon the short price represent? Stop losses?
I also don't understand what those rectangles drawn on two candles represent. I don't understand the logic behind this and what it represents.I hope someone can help me understand.

Just my view, if you really want to trade this method successfully, I recommend reading the whole thread a couple of times. New members (including myself) are lucky as this thread has only 34 pages so far, not in 100s or 1000s, so it can easily be covered in a weekend. Personally, I’ve read the thread at least 10 times, and I still plan to read it more, because with each pass the concepts become clearer.

When reading, pay special attention to posts by George / SwingMan (he has 179 posts out of 665). His explanations are key.

For your specific query, I’d suggest carefully rereading this post HERE until the concepts click. Let me quote it again for you:

Here’s a simple observation
When a small red circle with a dot appears below the price, price continues to rise until the cross happens.
When a small green circle with a dot appears above the price, price continues to fall until the cross happens.
I’ve noticed this over many charts, untill the trend changes.

One Pratical tip that helped me a lot in better grasping this method, If you want to understand the indicators better, start with all inputs set to false. Then turn them on , one at a time and observe the effect on the chart. Also, hovering your mouse over the chart objects will show you additional details in the tooltips, this is a quick way to understand what each marking represents.

Hope that clears up the confusion and helps you make better use of the system.

Finally, a word of advice, try to stick with one method. You have already spent a lot of time in TMS (r) thread.

I’ myself started with TMS by BigE (RIP) , then discovered TMS by Robinhood, from there I landed and finally settled on Golden Cross by SwingMan. If you choose this method, use the latest indicators and remove all the rest.

Read the thread a few times again, especially George’s replies is pesponse to my queries and for other memebs, they will clarify you a lot.

If after doing all this things are still unclear, feel free to post again. I’ll do my best to help, because whenever I explain something to others, it also deepens my own understanding of the method.

First of all thanks for your interest in the Golden Cross Method by George.

I completely understand your curiosity about an MT5 version or an EA for the Golden Cross signals.
Due to my health /personal issues I also need and an EA/Dashboard for Golden Cross, however, I feel it’s important to acknowledge and appreciate George aks SwingMan’s selfless contributions.

George has also clearly stated in the Biography section of his profile:

George has always shared his work and source code freely, without any personal or monetary interest. I have seen numerous posts where members requested the source, and he has happily provided it. Everything he has contributed to this thread and the forum has been purely for the benefit of the community.

As someone who understands what it feels like when one is not in good health, I can relate to why George has mentioned multiple times that he is not actively coding right now. I hope we can all be patient and avoid demanding anything from him.

Being a senior member who joined in 2006, I respect you and your views, but at the same time, you must know George and his dedication to ForexFactory better than most of us. I hope you won’t mind me saying that it seems a bit unfair to demand anything from someone who has already given so much.

That is one of the reason whenever I make a post on this thread, I encourage members interested in the Golden Cross method to test it, post charts, and provide feedback. In my view, the more engagement and interest members show, the more likely George may consider releasing an EA. He has created dashboards for other members’ threads, so why not for his own method?

In short, I think we all should respectfully request rather than demand, and then leave it to George to decide.

From reading this thread and George's previous posts, it seems to me that that active member participation is often the encouragement George needs to release more.

Once again, I respect your views and have shared mine also.

Hello Everyone,

I wanted to share something that has made a big difference in my trading journey i.e Multi Timeframe / Higher Timeframe Analysis.

Over time, I’ve realized that looking at the market from higher timeframes not only gives clearer signals but also helps me avoid overtrading.

This approach has been especially helpful for me, as I need to reduce my screen time due to my poor eyesifght. On top of that, my sciatica makes it difficult to sit for long hours in front of the screen.

The good news is that the Golden Cross Indicators already incorporates these key concepts (Multi Timeframe Analysis, Higher Timeframe Confirmation, Dr. Elder’s Triple Screen Method), as George has also mentioned in his first post.

These principles have truly been a game changer for me, and I believe they can benefit anyone who applies them consistently.

I’m also attaching one of the documents from my personal notes that helped me understand and apply these ideas. I’m confident that new members interested in the Golden Cross system will find it valuable if they follow this approach.

Welcome to the ForexFactory and thanks for showing interest in the Golden Cross Method by George.

Right now, without seeing the actual error message or a screenshot of it on your chart, it will be very difficult for anyone to know what went wrong and how to help.

Could you please post either:
--The exact error message you are getting, or
--Screenshot of the chart showing the error?

That way, others will be able to better understand the issue and suggest a solution.

I didn’t trade today because I was tied up at the office. But when I got home, I decided to do a little browsing on ForexFactory, and I stumbled upon something truly inspiring in a member’s profile.

Everyone think about it, whether it’s sports, work, family, or even trading, the principle is the same, we achieve better results when we work together.

So here’s a little reminder for all of us, don’t try to do it alone. Post charts, discuss, ask, and contribute , because the more we engage as a team, the more we all grow.

I am new to Forex and come from no background in programming or coding. I haven’t spent 10,000 hours mastering this craft, and honestly, I’m not sure if I’ll ever reach that milestone due to my daily health challenges . Yet, despite everything, I’m giving it my best shot every single day.

A special request to George and other senior members to make this thread a place where ideas flow, questions get answered, and everyone can learn from each other.

Thank you so much for your reply and for reminding me about the old Skype trading group.

Reading your words about TEAM and “more eyes see more” really resonated with me.

As we all can see from George’s recent post, he is facing some health challenges, which naturally reduces his posting frequency. Health must always be the top priority , it’s never easy to recover once it deteriorates, and of course family comes first. (I am also going through few health challenges and I know how how it feels)

Before finding this Golden Cross thread, I had spent time studying Trading Made Simple by BigE. Your posts in that thread are a treasure of trading wisdom, covering so many topics like trading psychology, money management, risk, and even automation/coding. I’ve also read many of your posts, including the one where you beautifully explained the science behind birds flying in “V-formation.” Link to that post is here

This lesson is exactly what we need here. George has generously shared his Golden Cross idea, and though he may not always be able to reply due to health, the thread can still grow stronger if we, the community, step up.

George is our LEAD GOOSE, though he may be resting now and regaining strength, I’m sure he’ll return with renewed energy to guide the flock higher.
As for me, I’m just one of the geese in formation, honking encouragement even if it feels like no one is listening, but I’ll keep honking anyways: HONK, HONK, HONK!

I sincerely hope more senior members, traders, and programmer/ coders will join in, posting charts, sharing ideas, answering questions, and even exploring ways to automate the strategy.

That is how we can truly embody the spirit of TEAM , V-Formation and take this system to the next level.

Emmanuel, I also want to express my respect for your selfless contributions across so many threads, patiently guiding beginners and keeping threads and discussions alive (its a very difficult task what you are doing and that on top of that watching charts for intraday trading). When I first stepped into trading approx a year ago, it felt overwhelming, the charts, the strategies, the endless advice everywhere. Forum threads with 100s and several 1000s of pages tempted me but I soon realized that with a clear and structured approach, the process becomes far less intimidating. By breaking things down step by step, I can build a trading method that fits my goals and lifestyle.

Based on my own journey, I’ve put together this guide for myself and for new members so that we all can navigate the learning curve and lay a strong foundation for long term trading success.

Where to Start as a New Trader: A Step-by-Step Guide
1) Pick Your Timeframe
--Your trading timeframe shapes your strategy and daily routine.
--If you can’t be glued to your screen, longer timeframes like H4, D1, W1 charts are ideal, they’re slower and less prone to sudden reversals.
--Short timeframes, like M1, M5 charts, demand quick decisions and constant attention.
--Choose timeframe based on your schedule and personality.
--Higher the better.

2) Learn about Your Indicators
--Indicators are tools, not shortcuts. Don’t add them just because others do.
--Study what they show just I am for e.g , smGoldenCross Trend_v2.2 (a rising moving average signals an uptrend, a falling one a downtrend)
--Focus on a few key indicators understand how they behave in various market conditions.
--Knowledge of your tools builds confidence and sharper decisions.

3) Test Indicators One at a Time
--Before combining indicators, test them individually.
--Watch how each performs in trending markets, ranges, or reversals.
--Refine these as you spot strengths and weaknesses.
--Keeping your setup simple avoids confusion and boosts consistency.

4) Study Price Action
--Price action is the heart of trading.
--Learn some basic patterns, support and resistance levels, Fibonacci retracements, and trendlines for a significant edge (babypips.com can be helpful)
--Understand market structure using Dow Theory basics, Higher Highs (HH), Higher Lows (HL), Lower Highs (LH), and Lower Lows (LL) to identify trends or ranges.
--Tools like the Bill Williams Fractal can highlight swing highs and lows, making structure easier to read.

5) Backtest and Demo Trade
--Once you have a decided on the method / strategy, test it thoroughly.
--Back test by scrolling through historical charts to see how your rules perform.
--Then, demo trade or use micro lots (e.g., 0.01) in a live account to simulate real conditions. Track metrics like win rate, average win/loss, and risk-to-reward ratio. --These numbers validate your system and build confidence.

6) Master Money Management
--Money management is critical to survival.
--Risk only 0.5%–1% per trade to preserve capital
--Understand recovery math, a 10% loss needs an 11.1% gain to break even, but a 50% loss requires a 100% gain.

This below formula helps you determine the percentage you need to gain to offset a previous loss.
Formula: [1/ (1 - LossPercentage)]-1
This formula uses the inverse relationship between loss and gain.
If you lose 50% (or 0.5), you need a 100% gain (or 1.0) to recover your initial investment.
Example:
If you have a loss of 20% (0.20) you will need to recover 0.25 or 25%
[1/ (1-0.20)]-1
(1/0.80) - 1
1.25 - 1
0.25 or 25%

I learned the hard way that jumping from strategy to strategy resets your progress. The breakthrough came when I committed to the Golden Cross Method. I studied every indicator and version, dug into updates, tested them solo and in combination, ran demo trades, and even used BTCUSD and ETHUSD on weekends. I initially focused on M5/M30 (as intraday reflections of H4/D1) and only after consistent testing did the method’s real strengths and weaknesses become clear.

A few wins or losses don’t mean much. Sticking with one plan long enough builds discipline, reveals your true edge, and gives you the confidence to trust, or refine, your system with real evidence.

Yesterday, I prepared a comprehensive guide for the smLazyHedgingChannelOsc_v3.0 indicator, developed by George. This guide explains everything a new user needs, from detailed inputs to interpreting histograms and channel lines on the chart. It also covers how to use components such as the trend histograms, channel median, channel width, half-width, ATR, and ADR lines to gauge trend strength, identify entries, set targets, and manage stops.

The explanations aim to help new members recognize strong trends, spot potential reversals, assess volatility, and integrate these insights into a coherent strategy.

Ultimately, the guide is designed to provide conceptual clarity, actionable insights, and confidence in applying the Golden Cross Method.

I am testing the indicator smGoldenCross Signals_v8.3 and today came across what seems to be a glitch/bug related to the lot size display in the Comments section (top left of the chart).

I’ve attached screenshots to illustrate the issue:

  1. When the Trading information is displayed in the top right corner, the lot size in the Comments section matches the actual trade lots shown in the top right.
  2. However, when the top-right information is not generated, the Comments section shows the lot size as -1.00 (Negative 1.00) across all timeframes, regardless of the settings.

For reference, I tested using the default parameters of the indicator with:

  1. Account size = 1000
  2. Risk = 1%
