For those that are use to the FX environment, futures is very foreign. It was a painful exercise for me when I started as well. Some of the platforms have a steep learning curve, clunky, zero intuitiveness, etc. It took a bit of time but got used to it. Started with AMP w/MT5 used that for the longest time, used NT for some time, using Quantower currently.

Same here. Coming from FX was a bit challenging.....now I find it much simpler than FX.
Quantower is my go to as weel, especially for props as you can copy multiple accounts accross multiple props.
Contrary to some recent posts, I am pure manual trader and 99% technical. I pay attention to fundies and market sentiment in the background, but pivots and fibs have been used for many years. Folklore has it, the Japaneese used to trade rice using fibs back in the 1600s.
But what do I know, I'm only making my 2-2.5% consistently month after month after month.
Futures are also superior as you can actually use REAL VOLUME analysis in your trading, forex has no real volume as there is no centralized exchnage, best you can get is on broker level.

I took a look at NinjaTrader for the first time a few weeks ago. The platform itself looks pretty good, but as I said, I'm not yet familiar enough with it, especially when it comes to automation.

Since I started looking into futures, I've opened four live accounts (IBKR, TradeStation, AMP, and NinjaTrader). By the way, I've been waiting three weeks for my NinjaTrader account to be opened but I keep getting emails saying that documents are missing. I've already submitted them ten times... It's really annoying. The support seems to be terrible.

With Interactive Brokers and AMP, my accounts were opened and ready to use after two days. AMP offers MT5 directly. With IBKR, there seems to be at least a way to use MT5 through third-party providers. They write the following about this

“While MetaQuotes Software is not a participant of our Investors Marketplace, they offer Introducing Brokers the oneZero Hub Gateway so that MetaTrader 5 can be used to trade our Accounts.” - But I haven't looked into it yet.

As far as Props is concerned I haven't found any providers that offer MT5. Only NinjaTrader or Tradovate. However, it seems that there is the option of copying your trades from MT5 to NinjaTrader or Tradovate.

"To use MT5, NinjaTrader, and Tradovate with a trade copier, you need a third-party trade copier software such as Duplikium, Tradesyncer or a local NinjaTrader-based copier like Replikanto. These services allow you to connect your MT5 account as a master and then mirror its trades to NinjaTrader or Tradovate slave accounts, automating your trading across multiple platforms."

Agreed, contrary to what others have said futures prop, it is mind numbingly easy to pass vs FX. There's no "slip them to hell" manipulation used by brokers/FCM's.
US indices give every day after the wall street open. Just have to use patience and let it come to you.

Yeah there are third party trade copiers that can be used. Not sure why any futures prop's haven't jumped on MT5. They would gain a captive audience immediately.

Edit: Driven also uses MT5 exclusively (with various trade algo's he's developed) trading futures.

Amp, not a prop firm, has, or used to, mt5. I have used it. It has a synchronization issue that causes delay in one's account balance. Along with many other faults it has beyond that.

Yeah i used it for a while at first. I think I bailed on it out of frustration with its over all ganky behavior at the time.

Yes, mechanical is great. You have a set of rules and you don't deviate, win or lose. Takes all of the emotion out of it. Of course, you may then automate those rules.
I guess I'm kind of an outcast, I actually enjoy trading and the chart time.

I think I must have rage quit NinjaTrader a dozen times, uninstalled, reinstalled, uninstalled, etc

I eventually got the hang of it, found my groove and haven’t looked back since. Talking to other experienced future traders helped a lot.

Quantower sounds great! You seem to be able to copy orders between different accounts directly within their platform. Algos/Indicators can be programmed in C# so you don’t need to learn another proprietary language if you’re already familiar with C#.

Something I have observed too (as I'm still using my cfd charts for trading calls), the charts look like they
print similar but if we compare this weekly chart print we can see CFD broken the high and the Futures yet to reach the high. I know the actual pricing will be different but thought they would both still print the same visually with regards to highs and lows being in synch. Might not be important for some but it does affect things for me.

CFDs brokers use both pricing of futures and spot indice so they average both

but your futures pricing the chart is incorrect mine is showing the same as in futures
