Thank you, George, for this long awaited update.

Your work is always appreciated, not just for the coding, but for the time, energy, and care you put into refining these tools for us.

I’ll start testing this updated version this week, post charts, and report back with any discrepancies or suggestions for improvements.

It’s great to hear that the Slope Permission Indicator is being developed. Time and health permitting, I’m sure the Forex Factory family, and the members of this thread in particular will be delighted to see it released. It will certainly save us from the constant slope checking before every trade.

One kind request for an EA /DB version of both the Golden Cross and SmallWick methods. This would be a real blessing for me and many other OLD and LAZY traders, who like trades to be executed with minimal button clicking without involving human emotions.

Thanks once again for your generosity and dedication, your work keeps these strategies alive and evolving.

Thanks for posting and for the kind words.

I’m still learning myself, but I’ll share how I understand the method so far ,and hopefully George (SwingMan) or others can jump in, if I miss anything.

The whole approach is based on Dr. Elder’s Triple Screen idea, predicting the anticipated close price for the current bar and to predict the 5 LWMA open/close Cross( GoldenCross).

When trading the H4 timeframe, you want to follow the trend of the higher timeframe, which is the daily (D1).

You can add the smGoldenCrossTrend_v2.2 indicator and set the MA period to 30. This basically acts like a 5 MA on the daily chart, and the color matches the background to show you the higher timeframe trend direction. So if the daily is trending up, you look for buy signals on the H4 when the price pulls back.

I have attached the screen shot of the indicators I have used on the XAUUSD chart. (Its not a setup chart , just have loaded the new indicator)

About the slope indicator, it’s a very helpful confirmation tool. After a trend reversal signal on H4, check the slope bars. Avoid entering after the third bar following the signal arrow. Dark Green bars mean the trend is strong, while sky blue bars show it’s starting to weaken. Ideally, you want the slope to already be in your favor before entering. If it hasn’t flipped yet, you can wait for it or skip that trade and look for another setup.

Also, keep an eye on the distance between the two 5 MAs (Close/Open) and make sure the slope and background trend aligns.

Kindly post charts as you test things out as it will be super helpful for everyone to learn.

The thread isn’t very long like other thread with over 10,000 posts, so reading it a few times wll help you catch details. The more we share and ask questions, the indicators and method will be improved and it will be beneficial for all the members.

Thanks just a quick question so I better understand, why would you put the 30 day trendfilter and clutter your chart. It looks like it follows the background colour identically. The chart below is only for education, so in this case the overall trend is long but the highlighted area marked is for shorting....correct? so in this case you would move to the next pair?

The longer MA is worth drawing. It better visualizes the periods where the main trend is moving sideways, and trading should be avoided at those times.

Yes, you are correct. On the H4 chart, smGoldenCrossTrend_v2.2 (with the 30 period setting) shows exactly the same as the background color and matches the MA color change.

In earlier versions of the indicator, there were some discrepancies when plotting the higher-timeframe background color (for example, showing D1 background on an H4 chart). Back when I started using the system, my mind was “trained” to rely on that background color as part of my decision making process. Because of those early habits, I kept using it. In the latest version I used , smGoldenCross Signals 7.1, adding smGoldenCrossTrend_v2.2 with a 30 period setting still proved very helpful to me.

If you zoom in closely on the H4 chart I posted, you’ll see that the background color still does not fully cover the last few candles. This is why, even though it may look like extra clutter, I still prefer to keep the 30 period MA on my chart , for me it acts as an additional visual confirmation and ensures I’m seeing the trend filter without relying entirely on the background fill. I’m attaching another chart, since a picture often explains things better than words, it should help illustrate what I mean.

Regarding the value you circled , 1.09437 (small Square with the line) that is the entry price but it will not be reached . The actual trade should only be considered once the signal appears , that’s the small horizontal red or blue arrow on the candle, and the corresponding message is displayed at the top right corner.

You will receive an alert pop up and previous alerts can be checked from the Alert Tab

I’ve always believed in sharing is caring and if something I have learned over time can save others time , from confusion or help them apply the system better, I’m happy to explain it.

Now, an important point about the strategy, we place stop orders, not instant executions. If the stop order entry price is not triggered on the very next candle, the system cancels that previous signal (the small horizontal arrow disappears) and will appear again when all conditions met for the new signal.

In addition, you will notice
--Small Red circles / Small (Green,Blue) circles with a dot on the chart. These are the Predicted Close prices for a Cross of the MA(5) Close/Open
--Small Rectangles with the line These are the Predicted Entry prices but the price couldn't reach this level, once its reached the arrow Horizontal arrow is plotted and small rectange disppears.
--Small Horizontal arrows (Red/Blue) are entry prices when the trends of the MA(30) / MA(5) coincide and the price is within the corresponding bar and then the alert is generated.

Note: Don’t confuse the predicted closing price (small red/green circle with a dot) with predicted cross price, and the Entry. Understanding the difference between them and the logic of how they are generated , in my view is essential to applying and trade this system correctly.

Here’s a simple observation
When a small red circle with a dot appears below the price, price continues to rise until the cross happens.
When a small green circle with a dot appears above the price, price continues to fall until the cross happens.
I’ve noticed this over many charts, untill the trend changes.

One Pratical tip that helped me a lot in better grasping this method, If you want to understand the indicators better, start with all inputs set to false. Then turn them on , one at a time and observe the effect on the chart. Also, hovering your mouse over the chart objects will show you additional details in the tooltips, this is a quick way to understand what each marking represents.

Hope that clears up the confusion and helps you make better use of the system.

Thanks it appears you have a good grasp of the strategy, Ill go back from post 1 and reread again now that I have a better understanding...So smgoldencross v8.0 is the version we stick with? I havent even looked at the small wicks side of things yet.

I get what you say about the trend filter it does show a better representation of the trend.....so if I was to trade the one hour I would use a 120MA to show the daily trend or 20ma to show the 4hr upper trend?

I’m still quite new to Forex (less than a year in), and I’ve only been following this thread since mid June 2025. Recently, I’ve shifted my main focus to the SmallWick approach, but with the release of GoldenCross Signals v8, I plan to start using it as well.

Hopefully from this week, depending on my health.

Regarding your question about LWMA settings, here’s what I’ve personally used
H4: 5 LWMA and 30 LWMA (which equates to a 5 LWMA on the D1, since there are 6 H4 candles in a Day).

When learning to speed up the testing:
M5 with 5 LWMA and 30 LWMA (which equates to a 5 LWMA on M30, since there are 6 M5 candles in a M30)

Because of my age and health, I prefer trading on H4 and above, it’s less screen time but still gives me quality setups.

Your logic about using H1 with a 120 MA to represent the daily trend (or a 20 MA for the 4H upper trend) seems sound to me, although I haven’t personally tested it.

As George mentioned in the very first post, the strategy is built around Dr. Alexander Elder’s “Triple Screen” method.

The recommended timeframes are:
M15 – M5 – M1
H1 – M15 – M5
H4 – H1 – M15
D1 – H4 – H1
W1 – D1 – H4
MN1 – W1 – D1

The GoldenCross method follows this same principle.

This post is purely for educational purposes so that I grasp what entries look like.
I received an alert for a sell AUDUSD, The background upper trend hasn't changed colour as yet but the trend filter has just turned over to bearish. I know under normal circumstances you would wait a few more bars to ensure a trend change. The slope is red and bold but the buy stop is above price so in this case you would ignore this setup?
BTW I'm probably same age as you :-)

I used to be quite active, but since last month Sciatica has been slowing me down, can’t sit for too long, so I’m trying to learn and find tools that can simplify my trading journey while I focus on my health.

Regarding your chart, I’d suggest waiting for the arrow alert. I think what you’re seeing is the Sell Stop setup. On MT4, a Sell Stop is placed below the current price level, and it only triggers when the market moves down to that point. other wise it will give an error when placing the SELL STOP (On MT4)

In this case, the alert is for a Sell, but you’d ideally wait for the small horizontal red arrow to appear. That’s your confirmation to place the Sell Stop order, using the recommended values from the trade management settings in the user inputs. When the signal is active, it will also be displayed in the top right corner as Sell Stop.
Think of it like traffic lights system, before the green light, you get the orange light, telling you to get ready. For me, this alert is the orange light, signaling that we might have a Sell Stop trade coming soon, once all the conditions lined up.

Again this is my understanding and I hope (time permitting) George can confirm this.

I was testing version 8.0 last night, kept it running on a few charts, and in the morning I found this error in the Experts tab:

I restarted MT4 few times but the error was still there, I’m not sure why it’s displaying Price=2147483647.00000 in the alert box and in the expert tab for different pairs. Its the same value thats appearing in all the alerts.


Also in the chart you have posted , I can see a new addition of an indicator aiGC Slope_v 3.0, seems to be new indicator replacing smGoldenCross Slope_v2.1?

A few suggestions/ requests, if they are manageable

1) When the top right alert message appears, it would be great if its color could be changed to red for SELL Orders for better visibility ( ahhhh my Poor Eye sight)
2) On Crypto charts, the top right panel sometimes goes beyond the chart width. If possible, please allow moving that dashboard a few points/pips to the left.
3) It would be useful if the last added indicator could control where the comments are displayed , ideally with X/Y position options or Chart corner, so we could have both the GoldenCross Signal v8.1 panel and the smGoldenCrossTrend v2.2 (DrawLastCloseForecasting values for the three timeframes) visible together.
There is an option for X/Y position for info Panel in both the indicators that does not move the comments, May be an doption can be added to move the comemnst and comments can be linked with the Info Panel, as combining the risk management commenst from GoldenCross Signal v8.1 and DrawLastCloseForecasting values from smGoldenCrossTrend v2.2 could really help in making better, more informed trading decisions.

Once again, thanks for your hard work and for continuing to improve this tool, its much appreciated.

Dear George,
I have noticed one more thing
I closed all the charts, closed MT4 , restarted my laptop , started MT4, opened one chart for EURUSD H4, loaded the v 8.1
I switched the charts to D1 and the back to H1

I’m off work this week, and lying in bed was getting a bit boring, so I decided to dive into George’s older posts, indicators, EAs, and dashboards that acan be related and used along with SmallWick and Golden Cross concepts.

You're right that I recommend trading on H4 or D1 for these two ideas (GC and SW).
If you decide to trade on one of these timeframes, you'll find certain successful "patterns" to trade, just like the "slope permission" will be later.

Thanks for testing and confirming as I thought I am the only one facing the issue.

A suggestion if you can switch to Bars instead of Candlesticks , your chart will look much better and lighter (same DodgerBlue/Magenta).
