Iraq Study Group Report

I saw this on the calendar tomorrow for release at 12PM EST. It was marked as orange which could mean some effect. Obviously this is not a typical report so there is historical data to weigh against, what do you think this report will do for Forex if anything?

I suppose this will definitely depend. The report could definitely have an effect on the market because if it recommends some radical modifications to the course (like, say talking with Syria and Iran or even changing their stance towards those countries), it could cause the market to react.

One thing is certain, the Bush adminstration has been preparing the public for a course correction for a little time...I have a feeling that the report is going to be pretty crappy and suggest some pretty "non-Bush-esque" policy changes. Politically, it could have been bad, but I think the administration has been preparing for the release of this report by seeming more open-minded about the situation.

The exact effect, I really don't know, but I would assume that would depend on how much of a course correction it recommends.

i am pretty sure its released at 11am, not 12pm EST. but anyway, yeah, its hard to gauge the reaction we will get from this. my thinking is that if the report says "get the hell out of iraq" that will be good for the dollar. but what are the chances of that?

You're right, very little, but how about "Get out of central Bagdad and any where else that snipers can take pots shots and bombers can blow themselves up by your troops, withdraw to the desert into easily defendable strongholds, and mount swift forays backed by hi-tech survellence at clearly defined targets in support of Iraqi government troops, then withdraw again."

Our British Paratroopers have seen sense and are now doing a similar thing in Helmund provence against the Taliban with great success. Rest of NATO troops are in Kabul protecting the International Airport.

china, iran, all these other folks that are ditching the dollar, this report has to have some effect on them, no? maybe we wont get a big spike as soon as the report is released, but maybe it could be trend changer or something.

well, I don't think that the repport would have any major effect on dollar or any other currency. The global recommendations of the repport are already known and probably even approved by the White House since Baker is in close contact with the president. But who knows, we will see tomorrow.
