Unless it is in reference to US$ floating around. Then value goes down naturally. But that has been happening for 90 years or more. Life goes on and somehow we are still No. 1. China "maybe" someday but the French and Italians and Euro-ville. LOL.

Hello everyone. Another Slovenian here.

I doubt there will be an effect on the EURO with Slovenia abandoning Tolar and adopting EURO as its only currency. The only change I see, is people spending all ther salaries in the first 2 months, since they wont have a feel for the currency. Then spending will decrease dramatically, which means less income from taxes, but also more savings, which in long-term migh mean more investments...? Oh well... 2 million people with GDP ~21k USD - I don't think it will matter much on forex, which way it will be. Except if we invent cure for cancer, but the pharmaceutical company would probably move production to a cheaper country or wouldnt be able to afford the testing (I hate pharmaceutics - the really evil corporations that exploit people's wish to feel better.... but that's another story) .

I think a larger effect will be in 2-3 years (or maybe even earlier) when the eastern countries start to adopt it. They have far larger populations and a far lower GDP.

So my money is on the EURO (for now), or even better - NZD (go New Zealand, go!).

As far as the Slovenian nuke goes, I'm sure your military/industrial infrastructure is capable of producing one of those within the next 30 or 40 years, as long as your country spends its entire GDP on that, and everyone starves. While I do not favour encouraging terrorism, it needs to be put in proper perspective. First, the number of people killed was under 2000, but that is not what is important here. What is vitally important is that americans tolerate a much larger number of deaths annually caused by their own people. I am referring to drunk driving. This activity kills far more people EVERY YEAR than terrorists have killed over all years. Why is nothing being done to stop this carnage? Because your law makers claim that lengthy mandatoty jail sentences would not cure the problem, yet they have the example of most of the europeans countries where this approach has worked. More likely they are worried about spending many years on jail themselves when they drive under the influence.

Yes, do something about terrorists, but do something about the greater avoidable loss of life caused by drunk drivers. The solution is available and it has been proved to work. I have gotten disgusted repeatedly treating the victims of the same drunk drivers in the ER.

Huge inflation, unemployment went up. Prices are very expensive. It hurts the tourism industry.

Basically it made the rich richer and the poor poorer. And unfortunately Greece has more poor people.

Only the richer countries can benefit from having the euro. And i dont believe your country is one of them.

Well let's face it. Capitalism is a system that supports elites and poverty. Middle class will sooner or later cease to exist. There will be a few very rich people and a whole lot of those that will have to manage with small salaries and in that will support the elite.

It's going to be like that locally. After all, if we look at the global situation (I don't have the numbers available but it's something like that). Europe and USA own the place, Africa for example is weak (except for few countries that have a realtively good economy).

But - where do USA, EUROPE and RUSSIA sell most of their weapons (maybe not in value)*? Africa, Middle east,.... We like the fact that there are ongoing wars there, since this means business for us. As long as they fight, economy won't develop, less education and more tirany. They will sell natural resources at low prices and invest in our products. Sad, but true, we live off other people's misery.
*of course NATO has it's own standard for weapons, that just happen to be manufactured in Europe and/or USA, etc... It's all business.

For capitalism to function there must always be someone that is not getting a fair deal, for the other one to get profit above the fair margin.

I belive things could be better, but at the moment I want to be at the upper end of the situation.

Every big moves has a positive and negative sides. But, I hope Slovenia could maximize the positive side and minimize the negatives. Congrat to Slovenia, wellcome to Euro community!

ooo...still have one more thing to say, about the sept. 11.
Even if i would be in that building that wouldnt change the thing about the fact, that the republicans didnt had the majority in Kongress, so they couldnt get the money to make laws that suit them...they couldnt attack any country in the world.
It is true you got presidental system,...so president is in full power,...but not if Kongress is 50/50,....so there was actually a need for a terorist attack....just like in lebanon this year,...the air commander of the Izraely force did sell all Israeli related stocks just before those izraeli soldiers were hijaked.

Now tell me who should I believe?! Most certanly i dont believe a thing about sept. 11 or the lebanon attack. But as long as november the 7 won september 11. I am happy....And i dont hate u guys at all. Just hate any war no matter who starts it.

The last thing I will say on this subject, is that although I have been to 2 countries in Europe (Germany, Austria and my descendents are not from either if you were thinking) and overall I don't have a clue what they are like and that goes for Slovenia too.

For those who have never "lived" in the USA who think they know us, they don't.

Visiting a place, watching a movie, reading newspapers only gives you an idea. And in the case of most of the garbage that hollywood puts out, a bad idea.

And the taking of just under 3000, not 2000 lives in a matter of and hour or so is truly a horror. DUI laws should be strickly enforced but they can also save lives by outlawing bathtubs too. And maybe strickly enforcing some kind of curfew when there is lightning in the area. Life has to be lived. All risk of death or injury cannot be legislated out of existance. Deaths from dui's and all manner of auto accidents are down dramatically in the last 30 years. They can't get it to zero without taking all the cars off the road, can they?

BTW I lost a brother-in-law to a dui accident. His own.

I am really sorry for the loss of your relative...but still the disaster does not justife the loss of 1000-2000 ppl more (only the alliances) from 01 to 06...they could done the same as when attacking the serbs...from the air only...no stop loss, like a real profesional army....really out of the subject,...but do not even think that the politics does not influence on forex/futures markets, it dohave a major influence...soory again.
