Very interesting article in Washington Post.

China, this year for the first time, has dislodged the United States from its long reign as the main engine of global economic growth, with its more than 11 percent growth eclipsing sputtering U.S. growth of about 2 percent, according to the International Monetary Fund's 2007 projections released yesterday.

An historic transfer of power I think and one which will continue.

Thanks for posting.

Russia, India and China accounts for half of all global growth!

Just fullfilling the astrological timetable where we enter into the age of aquarius and the east takes over, not just in economy but in spirituallity as well. Look at how popular yoga, meditation and herbal medicines have become in the last ten years. God created the heavens and the earth but wrote us a map in the stars. Very exciting time to be alive.

well when you have the 3 richest segments of the world economy [US, Europe, Japan] constantly pouring insane amounts of money into the country, year after year for ~20 years already, it sounds kind of inevitable... doesn't it?

it is semantics... when you put gas in a car tank... what is powering the car? The gas or the engine? One could argue either or both...

But no one can argue that the rest of the world is dumping their "gas" (cash) into the rather large engine that is the Chinese economy.

China has considerable influence right now but that will level off in years to come. Their economy is run by illegal copying of patented and copyrighted goods, cheap labor, less than worker-friendly worker conditions, an aritifically supressed currency and an infant banking system.

They will be forced to play on similar terms of trade and business in the decades to come. This will level things out somewhat.

India is another one to watch.

to paraphrase (no offense).
It's the ENGINE, stupid.

If there is no gas, engine will be powered by ethanol, water, fuel cell, electric, etc.
But if there is no engine, you can have all the gas in the world, blaaa

Just like you said yourself, after pouring all this technology into China finally something coming out of it.
No denying that China has a lot more weight in the World than it used to.
It is good for US and Europe. Better have a trading partner than a military adversary.

verry intresting analysis

now, seriuosly, the emerging markets grows on the back of the developed countries, and in order to over-take them, there must be some major shifts in the global economy.

I know... it's great to have a country that can say F* you to the Americans and not care about the consequences Very few can and do.

What I mean is that if the US wants something, most countries will give it to them. If China doesn't want, it doesn't have to. Russia's kinda doing the same thing now too. It's good to see...

Well, you are dreaming about country that can say F* to americans.
What does it tell me?
If you want "equilibrium" in the world, why not dream about China opening up to democracy and allowing a free flow of brilliant ideas just like America does.

Econonics, Politics, Human Happiness and Suffering.
It's all connected, that's for sure.
It's a heated topic and as an American I also have strong opinions.
But, objectivity will give this good thread longevity and good
discussion. Just my opinion.

Calm Down, Calm Down.

No one in China wants to take US's place in the world. But the world needs equilibrium itself. One-Pole system is no longer popular in the world.

In our Chinese leaders' words, Let's make a harmonious society. LOL
