Golden-Cross Trading-Idea

Swingman, not sure if anyone else if getting this with your "smTMMS Oscillator_v7.3.1", but I'm getting additional artifacts when I leave the chart running for a while but after changing the timeframe and switching it back, it looks good again for another while:

hi, Sir SwingMan, i am new here and try to read your post from begining and want to ask if my understanding regarding your indicator is correct? my entry and tp in is the image
1. background red = short
2. orange rectangle occur
3. down arrow at slope indicator
4. stoc cross over lv80

If it helps you, it's great that you're using the ancient "UltraSuperTRIX" indicator!

1, 2 = ok

3 = if you use bar charts, you can see better the predicted cross points and the calculated (suggested) entry point very clearly. There are hardly any indicators that do this.

4 = the orange and blue rectangles appear after a cross, and the close of the last bar is the recommended exit if one has not been done before.

- Because the "Stochastic" with the large period 30 is not an over/under trend, values such as 80/20 or 90/10 should not necessarily be taken into account.
The color change of the histograms should be sufficient for a change in trend direction.

- You should draw the important Donchian Channel and also think about how the bounce of the prices can best be used.

It's definitely an oldie but a goodie, though I see your "smGoldenCross Slope_v2.1" has a more smoothed flow and I can't decide if that's taking some information away or keeping me from making bad decisions! Lol.

Got into this trade right before leaving for work. (Was a little miffed at missing the trade at 17:23 and felt that I had to take something from the market before leaving to my regular job. Guess it was lucky Friday for me.)

Small question if you don't mind.
Currently looking at the GC and SW and i'm noticing something peculiar. Is there a reason why smTMMS HeikinAshi-Chart_v1.4.mq4 contains the following line: ChartSetInteger(0,CHART_COLOR_CHART_DOWN,clrOliveDrab); (i'm trying to incorporate something of the TMSr with the HA so the candle changing back was somewhat surprising .. ;-)

I can't say exactly what I was thinking at the time, but I suspect I wanted a neutral bar candle in the background of the Hashi candles.

Among FF's trading systems, to date, I haven't found anything better than playing (demo account) GC 15 minutes in the direction of the latest GC H4. Not spending all day in front of the screen, but in the garden...

This isn't a good enough strategy to be published further and played in real life
But it has the advantage of being simple.
Another, equally simple, strategy is to play Magic 100 by replacing the MA 100 with your GC. It's much more subtle.
Two simple, effective, and fun strategies, using your excellent Golden Cross.

I want to sincerely thank you George , aka SwingMan, for your immense contribution to this forum and the wider Forex community. Your first post dates back to November 30, 2007. That’s over 16 years on ForexFactory an incredible testament to your dedication and passion.

My brief intro , I'm not a Programmer, Coder or an Engineer and with my aging eyes and naturally lazy disposition I plan to retire early.

After joining Forexfactory, I found it quite difficult to follow Big E's (RIP) thread Trading Made Simple. While the community there was helpful, the thread has grown too cluttered and disorganized over time. I also found the TDI indicator a bit confusing, though it may be helpful to others.

Fortunately, I discovered the RobinHoods thread after sometime Trading Made Simple(r). The way information was presented there made it much easier for someone like me, a beginner and a bit slow to grasp to follow along. RobinHood was incredibly generous with his time, answering questions and helping traders despite his busy schedule.

From Trading Made Simple(r) thread, I came across the indicators and dashboards created by yourself. These made the visual interpretation of setups much easier, especially for someone like me who prefers simplicity. After using the different versions of RHO indicator, I eventually stumbled upon your Golden-Cross Trading Idea thread, which I believe is your latest project currently available on ForexFactory.

Due to time constraints and nature of my job, I prefer not to trade below the H4 timeframe. Also, being used to MT4 for sometime, for the time being I’ve chosen not to switch to MT5 despite its many new features as I am too old for these new technological advancements.

I’ve downloaded the indicators from the first post and loaded them on an XAUUSD chart and trying to understand the working of each indictaor. My time zone is London (GMT+1) 18:50 and My Broker time: 20:50
Based on my observations, here’s what I’ve understood:
Small Wick Dot = Entry
Small Wick First Bar = TP1
Small Wick Second Bar = TP2
Small Wick x = Stop Loss

Bars without Wicks (Light Blue color) Represent the range from the previous bar’s low to the next bar’s close.
Bars without Wicks (Light Salmon color) Represent the range from the previous bar’s high to the next bar’s open.

I hope my above understanding so far is correct.

I know you've mentioned multiple times that you’re very busy, not an active trader and may not be able to answer every question. But I’d still like to request a bit of guidance, if possible:

I have few queries:
1) Could you kindly share a brief explanation or concept behind the Small Wick signals for better understanding?

2) In the attached image, I believe I've correctly identified the Entry, TP1, TP2, and SL using the Small Wick. However, I have no clue about the HalfTrend — what is it and how should it be used?

3) On my H4 chart, the last 6 bars have a light blue background, which I understand indicates that the higher timeframe (D1) is in an uptrend. However, a red cross appeared on the last bar.
a) How should this be interpreted, especially when the info box at the bottom right still recommends a long entry?
b) Do we need to wait for the current bar to close before considering the cross as valid?
c) Also, should we look for confirmation from the smGoldenCross Slope indicator in the subwindow for confluence before acting on the cross?

Apologies for asking so many questions, I truly appreciate all the work you've done for the community. I am sure that your tools have already made a real difference
for many and will still continue to make.

I’m glad to see that you’re interested in the idea of the Golden Cross, and I’ll try to provide some explanations.

Did I understand correctly that you’re around fifty years old, have some eye problems and struggle with laziness, and are considering early retirement? In that case, having a simple and profitable trading system to enjoy your free time would be important.

As for me, I’ll be seventy-eight in the fall, have a small part-time job, and because I’m also lazy, I hardly program anymore.
If I see that you or other members are working on GC and SW ideas, I’ll continue programming. Right now, I occasionally work on an EA, but I would also need to make some small changes to the indicators.

Comments:
· The Golden Cross is based on the prediction of the crossing of two moving averages, with certain rules for TP (Take Profit) and SL (Stop Loss). The highlighted areas on the bars in the chart indicate a change in the local trend, meaning one should exit an existing trade at the close (or the next open). The bright backgrounds in the chart correspond to the indicator GC Trend_v2.2.(30). It’s essential to also plot the Donchian Channel (30)—I’ll explain why later.

· Unfortunately, the charts I post now contain a mix of the two ideas: GC and SW. This happened because I was searching for a continuation signal in GC when one needs to exit a local trend. It would be better to analyze the two ideas separately!

· Regarding trend areas (bright background), one can easily observe that for a long trend, two-thirds of the bars are green. For local trends (where GD(5) crosses), the same two-thirds ratio applies. Also, one can now see that two-thirds of the green bars have a very small wick.

· The indicator "smLazyHedging ChanelOsc_v3.0" calculates the bar range using its own formula and is an adaptation of ATR. "HalfRange" is half of this value.

· On the last bar, sometimes the arrows are not drawn correctly, and I may need to correct them.

· The information at the bottom right refers to the SW idea, and the entry is made on the current bar.

· The same applies to the GC idea. The chart should include the predicted close for the cross, as well as the entry level (1 HalfRange above this close).

· The indicator "smGoldenCrosse Slope (5,1)" is very important because it shows the trend strength (rising/falling). No long trades should be made in a falling trend area.

· Soon, I will create an additional slope indicator as a "Permission Indicator" immediately after the open. This way, it will grant permission to enter a trade or not.
