Why do you lose money in trading?

Lack of patience in trading is the main factor due to not having knowledge about correct trading. Trading must have a strategy and goals. If it's like this, maybe you can slowly hone your patience in trading. People who don't have patience in trading are usually those who don't want to process trading and always panic when prices fall.

Because basically if they have a good and structured trading plan it will help us stay focused and objective in looking at the market. Apart from that, we can also avoid impulsive decisions based on emotions. The point is that in order not to experience frequent losses in trading, apart from knowledge and patience in controlling, it is also important to remain consistent with our plan in trading and not deviate from the strategy that has been established from the start.

Losing money in trading usually comes down to making bad decisions- as I also experienced. It’s easy to let emotions take over—panic selling or jumping into trades too fast. Not having enough knowledge or a solid plan can also hurt. Risk management is key and you learn to be more careful as you get more experience

Interesting thread. The underlying assumption seems to be that losing trades do not have to be part of trading.

I am in the Phantom of the Pit's camp. He believes that trading is a loser's game; he who loses best wins. Sure losses happen because a trader press short when he wanted to press long, but the reality is loss is inherent to trading. Consequently, how one handles losing trades is more important than the "why" the trade lost. Yes, a trader can fix "trading leaks" (i.e. overtrading, trading with scared money, trading to impress nameless faceless people on the internet, etc.). But getting rid of loss entirely is not possible. And more importantly, not necessary.

If my past one year of trading has taught me anything it is that strategies and setups are like the steering wheel of the car - any newbie will think that is what drives your wins and losses. But anybody can do that. What matters more is the TP and SL setup - those are like the clutch and brake of your car. That needs practice and lots and lots of trial and error. Once you master that, you can drive your car successfully anywhere.

Losing money often happens because we don't trust our own system. Even when we understand the market's movement, distractions from irrelevant news or small price fluctuations throw us off. Also, many traders mistakenly believe that "today will be the day to make profit" which can be a dangerous mindset.

Do the proper research before start.
