i look for 20 pips a day, trading beakouts and also the larger news releases. it isnt hard but there are days when i just dont trade. I only trade from 7am til 2pm barring news releases. its a long day when nothing is forming and such days are like watching paint drying. The sound alarms do help though but i cant hear them over the vacuum cleaner!

The 20pts a day is nice in theory but it is sometimes very difficult to achieve. It is something I aim for, anywhere between 10 and 20pts a day on the EUR and GBP. That is combined. The problem being, is that when you start with a losing trade, then you have to make up those losses, where you begin to chase your tail a bit.

For example, on Thursday I was over 80pts down before I caught the last major move of the session to get back past break even. Where last night, I was finished within an hour after a 42pt profit right from the get go.

It really isn't that difficult, but as already explained, you need patience, discipline and to get rid of the old greed factor. There are plenty of methods or systems around, where you just have to find one you are comfortable with and stick with it.

Think a little like a casino, where you can accept your losses, but as long as you win more than you lose, you will come out in profit. Also consider the hours you trade, as most of the action occurrs in the early European or US sessions. Remember on average, the EUR will move about 60pts a day and the GBP about 110pts, so you really only have to catch a small part of this move to achieve your target. This week was probably not a good week to trade as it was pretty flat most of the time with no real decent moves due to a lack of news.

I wouldn't worry too much about what others say about risk, leverage, stops etc. You find something that works for you, as that is all that matters. Good luck with it all. Cheers.

Why aim for 20pips as a daytrader? I really dont buy into the theory of making 20pips/day. Simply because its against comman sense.If you take 20 trading days a month, you cant have a winner every single day. If you want to make money, and if there is strong trend for 150pips,, why would you want to get out for 20pips?No one can predict when the market will turn on every trade,, but it is wise to make most out of a trade.
This is just a thought but could the reason a person looks for only 20 pips a day is cause they have this dream about making each pip worth $100 or something? I am not sure.

I would like to think that if you are in a decent trend and it is obvious to you, that you would give it room to develop. When I say 10-20pts a day, that would hopefully be the minimum. If that's all I got, then I wouldn't complain. As I trade both the GBP and EUR, ideally I would like a good move on both where I could close one at say +20pts and then place a stop at break even on the other and see how it pans out. It is all a matter of checking out the charts with regards to momentum, pivots etc (for me anyway). There is a fair amount of discretion involved when it comes to exits.

And granted, if you could consistently pull 10-20pts a day, then sure, why wouldn't you just slowly increase your position size, keeping in mind your own money management rules. Cheers.

I agree it's a long boring day but look at it this way, we could have to go back to a real job, dunno bout u but to me that's scary !!!

I don't just limit myself to 20 pips a day somedays there's 50 or maybe 100+ pips to be had but once i get my 20 pips per day i'm happy, if there's plenty of action obviously i'll stay put and try to get some more pips

AMEN!!! Thats what I meant. Why limit urself if the market is willing to give.
I believe if you aim for 20 pips per day you gonna be wiped out very soon. Since earnings are too small and one big loss can completely destroy you. I recommend reading more about Money Managment techniques and position sizing.

Why settle for 20p/day? Why not take all of them?

By that I mean Buy the Up Ticks beyond the Spread and Sell the Down Ticks beyond the Spread.

It's Simple really.

Just Trade "Yesterday".

If you really don't have time to study how to do this JOB but only need ~ $200.00 / Day, try Panhandling.

You've come to the trading arena with the wrong approach. The sooner you change that mindset, the sooner you'll begin to actually understand how trading works.
Im trying to scalp 100 pips a day from 5 to 6 trades. scalping 10 to 20 pips each time. Trading full time.

20 Pips a day in all honesty, is actualy very easy. However you need a good system that anticipates the losing streak.
On the 20 pips or 100 pips a day, it all comes down to how good a trader you are and what you have learnt..
To the author of this thread, you may want to review some of the online edu content on Fx markets, start with a demo and hopefully, in a few months you should be ready for a live account.

Hahaha, why 20 pips per day? Why not 100 pips per day? Some people can become rich making 5 pips per day, some people may have only 1000 Pips per month and that only sums up to 5% ROI of his/her initial investment. But if you can make consistently 10 pips every day of your life, keep talking, i am listening.

Market is like a child, they behave like one and they are emotionally attached. Since this is a market controlled by You, Me , Tom and Harry and Mr Dealer, you must change your perspective without having a 100% fixed rules/set TP (in your case) to tame this market. Contradict your beliefs and keep failing! Only then you can realize the existence of the other side. Just another fool-losophy of mine, best of health and Happy Trading!

Let's say you have $1,000 in your account. You can buy 10 mini lots (10K unit). Let it go to 1 pip and sell.

If you pick the right direction on every trade, you'll be trading 500 mini lots (usually the max # of lots you can trade) in 399 trades. Make 1 trade a day, 1 pip a day and you're looking at $500 a day or $125,000 a year.

So, at 1 pip a day for 250 trading days, you'll make $1,000,000 in about 9 years or so. (Not including taxes).

So why waste...

Tread any pair with 10ema cross in 1h chart......you will get at least 20 pips for each cross.
