Is It Dangerous to Trade Right Now?

I've been doing a lot of thinking and watching over the past year to see how this type of market affects RFT strategies and have come to a conclusion. RFT strategies trade this type of volatile/ranging market driven (world chaos) well. We're seeing small/medium ranges which is great for all RFT strategies. I've noticed a lot of traders are very timid to trade right now because they're thinking... "Now isn't a great time to trade. There is too much conflict around the world. It's dangerous" Because RFT strategies use grid and multi-order trading, they work very well in this up and down type of market.
Anyway, I waited to see how RFT strategies would handle trading in the month of October before making this assessment. They had their best month ALL YEAR on my accounts with over +4.5% profit using the med risk preset!

This is my 1st attempt at creating a video like this so go easy on me!

My youtube audience never really knows when I have a sale going on so here it is... Hey Ryan, I´ve just found your thread. Sorry, I didn´t have time to start reading from the beginning. I´ll look for time. I came back to FF after many years being disconnected from Fx and EAs.

I am a sw dev, and I tried EAs for a bit years ago, but never had great results. I´d like to give it another go, so let me ask you if you don´t mind. Do you think normal indicators available to anyone in MT5 (like MAs of any type, oscilators, etc) are of any use to develop a solid strategy? Maye the right combination of them?

My most polished EA was a grid/basket of trades that balanced itself. I enjoyed developing it in mql4, but eventually, on certain conditions it could blow the account. So never tried it with real money. I might try to rewrite it again in mql5, but I have to re-learn all the framework of new functions.

Any advice to start developing an strategy with low DD? Not asking for a full description, just guidelines that could give me a starting step to start backtesting, polish and build on top. Many thanks in advance

Taking Control of My Trading - Does This Make the Powerhouse EA Better?

I'm hoping to be able to release a (beta) setfiles for trading the Powerhouse EA in this way by market open tomorrow. After creating this video and these setfiles, I realize this is a VERY new approach to using the PH and should be tested. So I'll be running a (demo) account for 3 months to compare results to the current PH setfile list we're using now. Personally, I think these new setfiles releasing tomorrow will be the better way of using the PH's 7 combined strategies. We can still be very profitable within a 12 month period trading this way. Anyway, opinions and thoughts matter! Let us know what you think!

I think the most a single grid/average-in trading strategy can pull in from the market is around 3% monthly. This is actually pretty good but only the best strategis can achieve this. It's difficult developing a strategy that can withstand multiple market phases over 10+ years. I would make sure your strategy can...

1. Backtest at least 10+ years
2. Doesn't have a higher max DD than -30%
3. The max DD is RARELY ever hit in the 10+ year backtest
4. If you use martingale, make sure it's a low risk scale. If you push the martingale risk management too hard, it will put your strategy in danger
5. The smoother the backtest when it comes to DD spikes, the better the strategy will be at handling future data. Minimal periods of DD over 10-15% means the strategy entry criteria is clean.

I definitely want to come back to algo trading, but this time I want to do it with Python instead of MQL as I want to add some data scientist skills to my professional skill set. That is what is delaying my comeback. I know it is possible to connect Python code to MT5 and use it as a bridge, what I´m not sure yet is how to it would be the back testing (there are libraries, I know but I haven't tried).

I told you I had a grid system that I coded and it worked quite well but on rare conditions (extreme peaks) it could blow the account. But this is a fully automated EA.

On the other hand I had certain success doing real money manual trading with a swing trading strategy in higher timeframes (D and W). It worked quite well, I think I made 40% profit for two consecutive years, and then I abandoned it because I had one or two years flat and I got demotivated.

I think I could combine both strategies in lower timeframes, like doing a grid just in the direction I think it is right until I´m proved wrong. I think your last videos go in that direction, trading a grid in a defined zone.
