Just a reminder to all that no matter how many improvements eurusd-thijs makes to this EA, the core function remains the same as it always was - 3 EMAs aligned across 3 timeframes (I have been calling this the 3x3 system). So if it doesn't work as well as it did last week, it's not the EA that has changed, but the market. Right now there are just 5 pairs that are aligned, 3 of them being NZD pairs. The rest of the market is not bullish or bearish (by the 3x3 method). Something is going on and perhaps now is not a good time to be trading. Maybe we should wait until more pairs become fully aligned?
This image explains some of it. Note that all of those yen pairs that were strongly bullish a few days ago? All gone (except USDJPY). So obviously, something is going on, just not sure what to make of it!

in T version it needs for a long that it says "Long" in the 4 time frames and it needs 3 x "+" in the lines below the Trigger text
the slope of the trigger (emas: trigger, small, medium and big) are not considered only the aligment of the small,medium and big ema.
red, white, blue in m5 my trigger time frame in order of the dutch flag is long for the trigger
no long usdjpy for now
in version 11 neither as the small ema points down in m30 but of course m30 is slower than m5 to signal

Apologies for my absence since last week. I have been travelling: Cape Town, Johannesburg, Nairobi, Zanzibar. Since Covid there have been no direct flights, but at least we no longer have to go via Addis Ababa. There is now one airline offering direct from JNB to ZNZ - if you can get a seat. We are now settled in, the signal is not very good, but enough. I'll be here for all of July.
I have been looking at examples of where the EMAs first become aligned. Almost always there is a pullback after about 10 to 20 bars and that seems to be an excellent place to enter. Sometimes the pulback is just an inside bar or two-bar pullback, others it is a full pullback to the EMAs. It's always wise to give away a few pips with the entry position so that a small bounce doesn't trigger the trade too early. Where price pulls back into or below the EMAs I wait for price to close on the trend side of the 8 and 21 EMAs.
On this EURJPY chart I used large yellow arrows to mark when the EMAs first become aligned (it is basically when the 21 EMA crosses the 100 EMA). I deliberately chose a messy bit of price action, price goes sideways most of the time on this chart. Yet there were no losses. By being patient and waiting for the pullback to present an entry opportunity I was protected from being stopped out. It's not always like this. Go and do your own back-testing and see for yourself.

This is based on my observation that a pullback to the EMAs will often take price into the EMA 'envelope' and the best time to enter is when price breaks out of the envelope and closes outside (on the trend side) of the two EMAs. This means that in most cases the entry is close to the EMAs and price is not stretched away / overbought/sold. This is more than just a convenient trigger, it is strategic, it increases the odds of success (as I have observed it). It also means that in most cases the three EMAs have started separating and have fallen into a clean trend.
I have marked some of these below. If my logic is correct then, ideally, the trigger candle should be on the trading TF (H4 in my case). But then there will be very few signals, so we need to drop down a bit. The question then is how far down the TFs should we go so that we get enough signals but still make use of the breakout candle concept. I don't know, but it seems to me that the sweet spot is probably M30.
But having said all of that, unless you have millions to spend, any EA that we are able to develop can never be as good as manual trading. The issue with this EA (and any EA) is that it can't be left on its own and needs to be managed.

Note that in this case the 'pullback' became a fairly lengthy period of sideways movement. Therefore I expected a decent breakout. But, to avoid triggering my trade too early, I placed my entry some distance away from the consolidation area. In this case my entry was about 10 to 12 pips above the tips of the main group of candles.
