35 pip spike on majors?

Is it just me or was there a 35-40 pip spike at 7:30 ET on the majors? What caused that?? It can't have been the AUD new motor vehicle Sales....

i was just asking myself the same thing! happened at 715 EST. i cant find any news. there were some comments out of Japan's finance minister, but i dont think that was moving the market. if anyone knows what happened?

I noticed that too. I'm in the eur/aud and that spiked 20 pips before settling down. There wasn't even any news... happened around 7:15 though.

And of course the one currency I'm in get's a 7 pip candle, hehe Yay AUD/$.

News wire has it as:
"USD sell off being blamed on none other than a system gliche on an interbank trading platform...no kidding"

man if that was just a big order moving the market i will be very surprised. i havent seen the market spike like that without news in probably over a year or two....

Heard it was large funds moving money for repatriation purposes, then a fund jumped on the spike.

The move was caused by a large US insurance name bought a decent amount of EUR, triggering the sharp move up, while large UK clearers out of HK sold USD/JPY on EUR spike up.

Dang, I'm sure such a large buy was carefully thought out by many analysists. If all those professionals predict the dollar to be weakening then that’s good enough for me.

I read it as 00:05 area, ie just into the new day, get a run around this time frequently I generally watch for something to reverse.

What is a DECENT AMOUNT to move the Euro Forex market 35 pips??
I thought that this market, especially the Euro /US Dollar was so big that no one trade could really move it, especially 35 pips in a minute.

This is a trillion dollar a day market, so how big was the trade from the large US insurance name?
The only thing I like about it is that the market has now gone back to what they bought it for.

Funny thing about it is that it followed the fib's perfectley...I happened to have a limit sell on the .32 fibo level which it just touched on its peak and that limit had a t.p on the .5 fibo, so I got about 15 pips from doing nothing =]

they knew they coudn't do this doing london or u.s. time so they did it when the market is supposley quiet/asian, so you guys wasn't suppose to see that. it was an well plan trade.

But HOW BIG would a SINGLE trade need to be to move the Euro 35 pips, even in the quieter Asian time session?
