I'm really happy with this GBPUSD trade. I placed it earlier today (at the base of that little green pinbar candle) and it has taken off. It's already at B/E too. The daily chart isn't officially in a downtrend yet, so its the same debate as before - do I want to be in a maybe / maybe not situation. My backtesting suggests that 9 times out of 10 a setup that looks like this will reverse, or at least go the distance I need it to, so I'm OK with trading like this. Must just expect a couple more losses along the way.

Here's another trade I have had running during today. Not quite as exciting as the GBPUSD trade, but still going in the right direction. On H4 I entered at the base of the first pinbar, the green one.

What a way to end the year. I have just closed all my trades, including the AUDCAD one on almost exactly zero, and banked 4.55% growth on account balance for the day. My best daily return ever.

My trading has experienced a wonderful turnaround just by returning to what I always knew was the right way for me to trade. All those wasted years wandering through the wilderness searching for greener pastures. Naked MA trading (plus a good dose of luck) is clearly what works for me, as the title of this thread so boldly suggests. Thank you all for being there to hold me accountable.

I wish you all a good and restful holiday season and look forward to excellent trading for all of us next year.

Well done Alistair, as I've said before luck does play a large part in tading. Some time ago I tried an experiment just randomly entering a trade off the H1 timeframe and it turned a profit depending of how you managed each trade. There were many losses of course, but exits then became the focus, I used a trailing type of automated exit.
It returned a profit overall, but because there weren't any rules, as such, I had no faith so couldn't trade it long term. But it did prove to me that luck plays a huge role in trading, as in life I guess!

Sorry I've not posted much but ill health has restricted my screen looking time these days

Great thread and result Alistair and really goes to show what is quite a straightforward stratergy can produce such good results (it helps when you know what you are doing though). Thanks very much for sharing and explaining to us all and I will continue to trial going forward after following many other ideas on trading and as a beginner have found this to be easy to follow and implement and look forward to the future.

I think I know what you are asking so let me try to answer.

I like to place my SL beyond the recent swing point, but not much more than about 100 pips. If it is more than that I will either walk away from that trade or try to find a minor pullback that will suit my purposes. But my experience tells me that in such cases the trade might be stopped out and then still go back the way I wanted it to. This is why I try to place it beyond the swing point, and also at least 5 pips beyond. If price gets this far then it usually means that that trade has been invalidated - it wasn't going to work anyway. Here is an example of an SL that looks fairly normal for me.

I am away from home and off grid, but while I have a power supply, a signal and some spare time, I am trying to catch up with this thread.

Thank you for your kind comments. Regarding using a demo account I would encourage you to open a real account, however small, and trade small, even just 1 microlot (0.01). Trading REAL money changes everything, but you will learn far more effectively by doing this.

Hi Smokey, I looked at it a long time ago and didn't take it further, but regarding indicators could you look at this post I made a while back? It's post #30.
