Hi

After two months of studying and demoing I've finally got a system that I'm with and MORE importantly suits my lifestyle and comfort level That said I'd like to keep a journal of my trades (winners and losers) so that I can track my progress. I was going to create a simple spreadsheet but wondered if anybody has already got one that they would be prepared to share with me and the rest of the FF community.

I did a search and could only find 2-3 that weren't really what I need.

Thanks!

Keeping a journal can be a task in itself. What I do is I copy/paste my Oanda records in CSV format from their website, I then open it up in a spreadsheet and edit it with comments and stats about the trades. This works well but it can be time consuming keeping it up to date.

i'm working on an excel sheet that keeps tracks of your records, wins, losses, r:r, daily, weekly, monthly total etc, but i am having a big problem with decimal places and numbers ending in 0. ei: opening a trade at 1.320, excel automatically takes the 0 off, making it 1.32, you could have a fixed 3 place decimal setting, but then if you enter a curreny that uses 2 or 4 decimal places, well it gets to be a real pain to always be adjusting, since it could be 1.40, or 1.3350... turning them into 1.400 and 1.335.

Hey Scott:

If you want to attach your spreadsheet, maybe I can have a look at it and get it working.

Thanks..

here are a couple sheets, i think i am really close on the decimals sheet, i just have to change the formula to work based off of the most decimal places column, but i am so tired right now, im sure you can get it to correctly display the amount of pips, but the one big problem is that if both open and close end in 0's and excel removes those zeros that 1 decimal point will be completely removed. ei: 1.120 and 1.140, 20 pips diff but excel will record them as 1.12 and 1.14, thus only a 2 pip difference, but see what you can do, besides using a fixed decimal place which would have to be constantly adjusted after using a different pair each time.

i guess too if you know excel well enough (i dont) you could correlate "eur/usd" to 4 decimal points, and "usd/jpy" to 2 decimal points and work from there. ei:

IF C2 = "eur/usd" THEN
dec = "4"
else
IF C2 = "usd/jpy" THEN
dec = "2"
else
etc etc etc

i just picked c2 as a random cell, go hard!

Excel for me. I don't think I've ever opened Access actually! But Excel allows me to record data ina table and embed screenshots of the before and afters from trading view so does the job well for me.

Agreed, I don't think I ever opened Access! I find it really handy to track using Excel and it also clearly shows how much P/L I derive from each trade. Definitely great for reviewing the trades I have taken over time and to find out where I am making my mistakes and incurring the losses!
