It's not the same. Most EAs and discretionary traders rely on signals that form after Bar[1] closes -- where Bar[0] is the current, active, fluctuating bar and Bar[1] is the previous bar that is now carved in stone.

All indicators display their chart markings using historical data -- with the exception of the current bar (Bar[0]). A repainting indicator will occasionally go back in time and use more recent data to alter its past markings. In other words, with the benefit of more recent data it changes its mind and goes back in time to change its markings. As a result, when you look at the chart the markings look great and you think it generates great signals. But if you had actually been trading then those signals you now see may not have been present. Or, there may have been false signals displayed which are no longer there.

Repainting indicators don't repaint every signal and there are strategies that implement "LookBack" bars that can use repainting indicators, but you really need to understand the details.

Finally -- using Strategy Tester it's very easy to determine whether an indicator repaints. If someone wishes to progress beyond newbie trader then you should take a moment or two and learn how to do that instead of spending time posting questions and waiting for responses (which are often misguided).

all this, plus: most seem not knot how to separate buys from sells... thinking a repainting indi is putting them into a trouble.

the bigger the obstacles or the challenges, the better one gets... whatever.
