{quote} they are not poor. I honestly want to see how Erdogan will make it. Turkish are wise people and have invested a lot of money in Europe. While you (not you in particular) can critisize Erdogan he is very close to terminate his "enemies" At 20% a lot of people will lend them money Prince @MohamedBinZayed Abu Dhabi is there today. - Coincidence ? I think not

The situation in Turkey is getting worse by the minute. Erdogan and his one-man administration has ruined the future of a beautiful nation. He is at the edge of putting Turkey into a massive war against Turkey's long term allies such as USA and Nato nations. I have relatives living in Turkey and even making an above average income is not enough to have a normal life yet 43% of the population is working for minimum wage which is ca. 220 USD now after yesterday's move. It is literally impossible for a four member family just to buy enough bread - just bread - with that kind of income for a month. Many have two three jobs and you need to know these people who earn minimum wage mostly have college degrees.

Erdogan thinks if Turkish Lira depreciates, the country will export more goods since labor is now even cheaper than China. China has massive resources and her own technology. Turkey can never achieve what China did just because she offers cheap labor for Europe.

A very painful and sad term has already begun and nobody knows how this will end. I have cousins who have engineering degrees begging me to get them to UK to become a taxi driver, waiter or a cleaner to have a better life.

It is a sad story but don't want to spoil the thread with this crap.

{quote} add into the equation turkey. if a NATO member becomes a dictatorship, does NATO still fight for him?, to the point would a attack on turkey or turkey attacking another mean NATO comes to its side. go back through 10 yrs of post. several mentions of a time when NATO fights NATO. and or many countries getting together with a single currency getting along is a myth, its been tried before, the euro dollar isn't the first time. it was tried long before with gold and silver with a central bank in rome.

You need to know Erdogan came to power 19 years ago by using nationalist and religious motives. There have been naive people who were sold to his ability of speech.

There are still people who believes he is a world leader and Turkey is a super power in its region. The media and any source of information channels pumping the fake news like a propaganda machine. The story is very much like the Nazi Germany, the exact same methods are being applied and some seriously believe that. It is as if the Germans thought they were still winning the war up until Berlin was taken over by Russians that morning. He came up last year and said Turkey is now producing electric automobiles, he even made a presentation of the cars but guess what nobody knows where the manufacturing plants/ factories are. Later some noticed that they were some prototype models of a Chinese car manufacturing company. As if this wasn't enough after a few months he made an announcement saying that Turkey discovered gazillion amount of gas and oil and later he said Turkey's spacecraft will land on the moon or be in the space by the end of year 2023. And this is a country that can not even produce a motor engine without purchasing the right from an engine company.

This is all true. Imagine Trump running USA for 20 years and the amount of BS you would have witnessed. Turkey is going through that..

Truly sad.

It used to be the safest heaven for western/civilized world on the Eastern front and a strong/trustworthy ally with an amazing potential that derives from her past - Ottoman Empire - and bright young well educated population.

Correct me if wrong. Don't they have a shitload of Syrian refugees starving on the border. Not to mention other refugees from other countries. So the plan is to make Turkish labor. Cheaper than the starving refugee labor? So basically starving people sell their children into slave labor. Erdogan wants his people to complete with starving people's slave wages. It sounds like a well thought out plan. I can't imagine anything going wrong with this plan. Poor Kurds, genocide is coming.

Yes Turkey interfered Syrian civil war and ended up accepting ca. 5 Mil Syrian refugees and no they are all over the place not at the border, in large cities like Istanbul, Adana, and many others they have their own ghettos and they don't need to speak Turkish to have job or live just like they live in their home land. Erdogan's brilliant international politics was to accept the refugees and Turkey would get financial aid from Europe so that he would prevent them fleeing to Europe while keeping them here. Turkish people suffered even more with this decision since it was already difficult to find a job and after all these refugees taking their jobs, situation got even worse. West thinks that just because Turkey and Syria are both in general Muslim countries they are united. Historically these two nations actually hate each other, apart from the religion they have nothing in common.

Erdogan is using the refugees as a threat to Europe to get financial aid, he said several times unless EU pays XXX amount, he will let them flee to Europe.

Gator, Turkey is not a rich country, it is crazy to accept so many refugees, actually accepting 5 Mil people for any country is difficult. His politics caused so much trouble for everyone.

About the Kurdish problem, they have been suffering for several years now and while the country is in this economic state, it is unlikely that this will change in the near future. His politics leave Turkish,Kurdish and any other minorities in hunger & pain.
