Roy Buchanan:

Amazing performance, G, by the ill-fated Roy Buchanan.


Roy, as I read, said he started playing as a 15yo in the mid 1950’s with the Johnny Otis Band.


Johnny was the writer of the iconic groove song Willie & The Hand Jive

And Johnny, by the way, says that he wrote the song Hound Dog, which Big Mama Thornton recorded

but of course was made famous by Elvis,

and when Johnny later took them to court for royalty payments for Hound Dog his case was thrown out
as he was still a minor at the time he wrote it and therefore wasn’t deemed legally able sign a contract
EVEN if he did write the song.


So here’s some Johnny Otis Band at a 1970 Monterey concert, post Roy Buchanan, with Pee Wee Crayton on left channel guitar and Johnny’s son Shugie on right channel guitar.

Duane Allman was killed in a motorcycle accident not too long after. This album came out in July '71 while by the end of October that year Duane was gone.
