Price has been strongly bullish, Looking for the price action at the open and how it traded relatively to yesterday's Asian session. Price traded way above, C period also trading higher and breaking VA. Closed manually a few pips below TP. +0.91%

Hi.

First of all, I thank the creator of the thread and all those who nurture it and share their knowledge here.

I have been learning forex trading for two years, not fully. For now, this is my hobby and "earning extra money" because I have my normal regular job. There are no great successes, and traditionally a lot of losses but I don't get discouraged and I keep learning.

I have read and tested various strategies, but honestly I have never been able to understand what is happening with MAs, indicators and stuff.

It was only two weeks ago that I found the Market Profile and Volume Profile.
I have read the books "CBOT Market Profile" and "Steidlmayer on Markets: Trading with Market Profile" several times, following the examples closely.

I also read a few pages on the internet, especially this one: https://tradingriot.com/

I handle MT5 and so far I found the best plugin https://gitlab.com/fxcoder-mql/vp/-/tree/master/VP.

So far my head is very confused. I have a lot of information, but I don't know how to use it in practice, strategy yet.

Well, I have thousands of questions:
0. Is there anywhere in this thread I can read about the strategy / rules of trading with the use of VP? read the first few pages and found nothing.
1. General: what rules do you use when making decisions based on VP?
2. Do you identify the trend? if so how? with the help of VP or other methods?
3. What kind of VP do you use to make decisions: daily, range other?
4. Do you consider the minimum and maximum levels as resistance, support? and if so, are you waiting for some PA?
5. Do you try to figure out the current session in terms of "responsive" / "active" - how do you do it and how do you use this knowledge further?

sorry for so many and probably basic questions, but unfortunately I still have many of them in my head thanks in advance for your understanding.

Great question and you're on the right track with the questions you're asking. I've been using Market Profile for about two years now. I'll try and answer some of your questions from my experience, but keep in mind there may be more qualified people on this thread to answer your questions.

0. I used to ask myself the same thing but then I realized that MP is just a price action indicator. The strategy is up to you really I'll explain my way of trading with MP in the next answer.
1 & 3. For indexes, futures and commodities I day trade, so I set my MP to individual sessions: Nadex/Overnight session (Asia,EU,UK) and New York sessions. In the image below I use the 30min chart and the white arrows point to the Nadex/Overnight session and the red candles point to U.S. session:


For currencies I use the weekly MP. See below:

Now, for rules and strategy this is how I trade:

1. Inexes, Futures and commodities: I look at previous session VA, for U.S. instruments (S&P500, NASQ, U.S. Oil) I'll only keep in mind U.S. session VA, for other markets like Nikkei, I'll look at previous Asia session VA. I'll wait for the market open and see where it opens: above or below previous VA? Inside previous VA? Then I wait for A period and B period, basically what's know as "Initial Balance" which is the first hour of the trading session. I'll look to see if price came into previous VA, POC and rejected it, shot through it, or stayed inside of it. I'll look at what C period does: does it trade higher or lower than A and B period? Does it break IB?
2. Forex: For currencies I like to use the one hour chart and weekly MP. My strategy is pretty simple and it can be resumed down to "ifs" and "ands" so: If price is above previous week's VA, and above previous week's high and above 120EMA (120 candles in 7 days) = Buy. If price is below previous week's VA, and below previous week's high and below 120EMA = Sell.

2. You can identify trend y zooming out and looking at VAs. Are they going up or down?
4. As I mentioned MP is just an indicator for price action, so yeah one way to look at is max and min. levels as support/resistance or supply/demand.

Shorted AUD all around yesterday. Took an AUDUSD short and a EURAUD long after seeing price meet my criteria:
- Price above/below last week's high/low
- Price above/below last week's VA
- Price above/below 120EMA
+1.10% on EURAUD and +1.21% on AUDUSD
