Anyone using MQL4/5 expert advicers for automated EUR/USD trading or having a substantial experience with it? Just asking about prevalence among us EUR/USD traders. I've just bought this "Expert Advisor Programming for Meta Trader 5 - creating automated trading systems in the MQL 5 language" book. I used to do some C as well as assembler programming many years ago hence I should still have the gut for it I guess.
I would suggest to start learning to code for MT4 because that's where many brokers still focus on.. MT5 is nice but not every broker supports it yet and the coding mentality is totally different than MT4.. But I can also say that there is nothing that MT5 can but MT4 can't except the number of additional time frames.. If you want to trade and experiment on almost all time frames then MT5 is the better way.. If classic time frames are enough then just go with MT4..
The main advantage of MT4 is the code pool.. There are so many indicators and EA's already written for MT4 that one can make use of them and even examine the source code if it was written open.. That said, I strongly recommend to examine and study source code because that's what will help a coder to learn much quicker than just reading a book.. Ready code snippets of other coders are the best teachers..
Below I am re-sharing a very good e-book written for MT4.. I haven't seen anything better yet that gives all the important things at once.. The writer of that book did an amazing job in simplifying and it helped me a lot to grasp many precious techniques to code an EA or an indicator in a practical fashion.. I hope it helps..
