Were you holding a short or did you enter short higher and get stopped?

Tried something I hadn't done before on this announcement. Put in an OCO stop buy order 2 pips above ask and stop sell order 2 pips below bid 10 seconds before release. Got immediate fill on the buy at 1.912 and promptly entered closing order at BE to protect against potential whipsaw. Exited 2 minutes later at 1.91512. Worked out how I imagined it would this time. I can imagine the possibility of not getting as good of a fill before price reversal and perhaps there are other dangers to this little trick. If you have done it the past and can share your results I would appreciate knowing.

Not the place to discuss it just to let you know..some brokers widen the spread during red events.which will cause both orders triggered with slippage in negative

I am longing for some profits 1.1898 UPDATE. Now long at 1.1892 but took some losses and at one point I even lost my net long because I increased too fast as it went down and found myself overextended. UPDATE. Now long at 1.891 after reducing position at profit. PS. I was such a fool for increasing too fast the long in the down and taking losses... UPDATE. Out at 1.1916 +2% on equity. Without the original mistake it would have been double that, with no angst. UPDATE. Small short 1.1915 closed in profit and building another long position 1.1898 This...

I just experienced a colossal fuck-up of a new kind (for me)...
Early in the spike I took a short to close one third of the long I had, but before I could take out the prepositioned limit sells they were executed... so I accidentally went net short.

UPDATE. Kind of hesitant to act rapidly I sat and waited for a long time. Took some sells starting around 1.196 all the way to 1.198. Closed all 1.1966 Bottom line I close the day at +3%, It would have been a +4% closing just before the news. It would have been a +8% if I had just sat and did nothing without prepositioning the TP. The size of the spike was completely unexpected for me.
I'm just stunned as in years I never did something like this.
Of course it's nothing compared to the kind of stuff that happens to people in those events.

Now it could have reached a top and a sizable retr. seems in order but I am out. Within a couple of days tops it should retr. half the spike. Maybe.
Temperance (restraint in action, thought or feeling) is a virtue.

The goal of robber banks is to retest 1.2010 area first and foremost.. After that either bounce and bearish continuation or a long stall and further up.. Long story short I focus on daily R3: 1.2012 .. Meanwhile R1: 1.1942 area will probably act as support..

The idea is fantastic, and Iīm glad it worked for you. Impossible with my brokerīs spread, it spikes on such news up to dozens of pips, you would have gotten filled and stopped immediately on both sides with a loss.
Congrats. on your generous broker!

Thank you for the quick caution.

I seem not to entirely understand the boundaries on this board. I'm clear that the first thread says "ideas and charts only and solely for the EURUSD currency". It's definitely been helpful to read the variety of posts here but often I am often left with questions and wanting to know more of the "why" behind the ideas. I'm not seeking to have my hand held like a child or for someone else to tell me what to do - I put in time each week to read concepts, back test ideas and refine my own system. But on more than one occasion now when I've tried to dig into an idea further and ask questions I've been told this is not the place. Where is the board then to get into more context on trading ideas and explore the "why"s, not just the "what"s?

I understand what you did and frankly you got lucky.

I've done that in the past with FXCM and the fills were terrible and I lost so much $ trying to get in ahead of the crowd.

Discipline yourself NOT to do that in the future it just triggers a dopamine high followed by a terrible feeling of FOMO

When you mentioned you were buying the dips I'm curious as to how many pips you consider a "dip"?

As I write EU is at 1.197X. Would you have buy orders at 1.1942 or do you just watch and purchase manually? I'm curious and forgive me if I'm asking to much.

If H1 chart prints a long-ass mofu candle, the vacuum effect can allow a revisit to 1.1914 area.. Not a must but possible.. There will be plenty of time to buy dips again and again.. Stay cool, rinse and repeat buying dips and have fun..

Is a massive retracement like this out of question now since there has been another candle close? not sure what your mofu candle rules are like

Touches to my angled lines are dips.. Dip size depends on what time frame you trade and where the angled line is located.. Long story and all was explained again and again anyway.. Cheers

H1 Status Update

For my followers: Current aggressive buy level sits at 1.19445... Not much to say.. We better rinse and repeat buying dips based on H1 or M15...
