Arbitrarily deciding to ban new sales of non-electric cars. 'Coz they say so...

Glasgow town centre (and it's actually a lot bigger than that, basically all of non-suburb Glasgow) - they are sliding legislation in under the radar that will mean no cars over the age of 9 years old will be allowed inside that zone. 'Coz they say so...

Horrendous grid lock - causing more pollution then previously - caused by cutting roads to half-the-size to accommodate cyclists (the main one here has about one user every three hours). 'Coz they say so.

Again, nothing more than gesture politics and of course who cares about the little person who can't afford Ģ30G+ on a Tesla...they should get out and use their bikes. They won't be allowed to own their own car anyway, as the way forward is ''You will own nothing...and you will be happy''...'Coz they say so.

Yesterday my 3 friends txted , saying they were out for a bike ride and would i like to come,

I have some general question/s to the the counter / lock-in people here.

The risk seems to be fixed that once i counter the failed trade to limit my further risk at X by then opening a new position in the opposite direction. BUT, what if market experiences bouts of volatility like a sudden spike due to some unexpected or even regular scheduled news event leading to a more widened spread than what is "normal".

This would then effectively affect price and therefor required margin?

So i could be hedged while i go sleep at a floating loss of lets say -$6k with one side at +$3000 and the other position at -$9000:

Now i have to calculate that in to what might happen to my account like a spread widening due to roll over times.

During 23 - 00 GMT i normally have a spread of up to 10 Pips. I mean this is still something can be calculated with in advance and which i did so far but might lead to problems if spread will spike to maybe 50-100 Pips instead (i mean who knows..) still no problem then?

Next thing is. The negative side might be 100, 200, 300 Pips more at the time i want to let go the positive side and hope for the best to get my negative side decreased in size (so maybe the next day). But wait a moment.... If i now close the positive side the total funds in my account might be not sufficient anymore to handle that drastically increased negative side which i then would like to have decreased due to the new trigger i got. But what happens is the that the position will be closed because of reaching the 50% automatic margin stop out level and instead of fully hedged i am now fully wiped out

Hi all.
Cable, 08-00 break. Low broke for +5%.
i am having a fight with the 00-00 4 hour break. Had a fail but fixing.
I shorted a cheeky trade on e/u after the 00-00 high failed.

Trade well all.

As you've discovered margin control when hedging is very important end of day. I've seen opening sprea-d-s of +50 on GU before especially on Sunday open when the liquidity is thin.
When I've managed larger swing trades in the past I chop up the hedges so I might have my main trade and size out of it with 3 hedges at different levels. To be honest it gets too complicated and not worth the hassle/stress unless you are cutting millions over a longish period. Might be better taking a fail and moving on.

If you are gunning for 5 pips I would ask myself why I'm struggling with the hedge margin, the rub is your size might be too large for your account but you need it to make the trade worthwhile, here is the root potential of your issue?
Another way is to half your future positions and keep half of your bank roll separate. Then only use this bankroll for hedge purposes.

Sorry, I appreciate this post probably doesn't help a lot..

EDIT I've had to mis spell sprea-d-s because FF creates a link to that word to a broker. That's a bit crap.

i would of caught it off the 5 min scalp, But alas i left it alone. lol.


edit, actually i did have a retrace pending oredr long set at 12830 but it never happened and that is now history.

Wish it was this easy every day. Normality is usually snatching 5 pips here and there. Today was a series of leisurely shorts once pre 8am levels were breached.
Finished at ten and have been tasked by Mrs T to clean the car ( after she checked the trading account - certainly a change from the days when she was too nervous to ask how the trading account is going)

Thanks Fagin, well it helps a bit. I actually ask my self the same. I am willing to learn. Did you ask Billy the same question? Why bothering with hedging the fails instead of just taking the Sl at the opposite end of the 08-15 range, consider it as a fail and move on?

For me the real issue seems to be that like you say i donīt want to make a dozens of more trades per day, first because of limited time + to keep things very simple until i see some consistent long term profitable results. Another reason is that i donīt want to feel needed having to make a hundreds of pips each month so this will be somehow a life changing moment regarding to my bank roll? So thats my i like the idea of hitting it hard at larger size per PIP value but yes that just donīt help if your fails will ruine it finally.

Honestly. I have good results but the main money came from actually fixing the fails in more like a random (lucky) way of doing so. Thats how i actually trippled my account over the last 10 monthes.

So i am not sure what exactly is it that makes the setup "work". What works stands for if not to be profitable after X time doing so.

To me it seems like the hedging/locking is because from a risk/reward point of view it wil be not profitable in that kind of isolated way. So if you donīt make a tons of pips else where with you somehow forced to lock/hedge these fails and hope to get out of it for break even at least so the many +5s will at least leave some little profit in your pockets by the end of days.

I actually started to think i have found my way but seems like i am still some miles away from it at least :/

Hedging this way (no real pre-defined plan) definitely not worthwhile the trouble risking a margin call in the end by some unexpected events. Hell my broker is not even giving me negative balance protection... '

I remember going some years ago and taking a spare suitcase to bring 10 pairs of Levi's back and Nike trainers! Now they are cheaper here I think. How times change!
