Lol, here we go again. I decided to stay for a little while because I was enjoying OANDA's web based advanced charting (basically TV).

Up to last week I could load years of 5m data, but as of last week I could not load more than a couple of days of 5m data. Went through the basic troubleshooting with not results. Had an online chat with no results, though this person was quite helpful. Since then I have cleared cache several times, tried different browsers, and tried different computers.

I have opened a ticket with OANDA and the person I am speaking with does not seem to have a great understanding of the English language and there seem to be getting a lot lost in translation. At some point I thought they were pulling my leg, as I ask simple questions that are not responded to and after having mentioned several times I am using the web based platform they keep giving me solutions for the desktop app.

Last night it appears I got their final answer simply stating that as of last week u can not load more than a months worth of data on 5m charts. I find this very hard to believe. I have seen several posts on other forums where there are charting issues.

Any suggestions are welcome, but I am already in the proces of moving somewhere else in the meantime.

I am using desktop app but I could never load even a month's data on 5 min chart. all I can access is 2-3 weeks data.....and this has always been like it.....I wonder how come you can load 5 min data for years on desktop app.......Could you pls share a screenshot of 5 min chat of any day in the month of lets say June 2020 ( which is like less than a year)

Hi Wizzlebizzle...I see you are having some issues with the TV charting....I use the desktop platform and just starting this week, if I made any changes like drawing lines for the daily open, yesterdays high and low and other lines I would lose all recent changes when I closed and reopened. I have not had any issues before and have been with them for a couple of years now. I call them and they said since TV is a 3rd party charting system I would have to contact them....I say really, like they are really going to talk to me....they had no other answers or solutions and really didn't seem to want to attempt or fix the problem. I have looked online for other people having this issue and run onto your post. I would really be interested if you find any fixes for these issue and will check back and if I find out anything I will do the same.....anyway, thanks for posting the problem, I thought I must be doing something wrong......

Thats really cool man...
It's really good to see that we can access this much old data in 5 mins chart. It will be really helpful to backtest some strategies.

I'm not sure how Oanda is run now but a few years ago they closed my account. I had 300+ profitable trades in a row and was day trading taking 5-10 pips at a time. I guess I was scalping usually closing trades within 2 hours. I figured I made them good spread money by making so many trades. Never gave me a good reason why they closed the account no matter how many times I asked. I'm still pissed. I loved how easy it was to create different accounts within the main account and send money between them. It was great to test ideas. Use Forex.com now and never had any issues.

It looks like that OANDA is allergic to traders making profits. I have been banned from trading Bitcoin although it's available for trading.

Interesting Hutch. Where do you find Bitcoins through OANDA? I looked in MT4 and the desktop platform, could not find it!

Go to User preference, and from the Rates Tab select cryptocurrencies from the dropdown menu, and you can select bitcoin or mini bitcoin. and If you are not aware you can also select bonds, Indices, precious metals or commodities other than currencies.......( but i think oanda USA dont have these products, so if you are trading with usa you may recheck)

I'm American living in Cyprus but trade with Oanda Canada since 2005 because of account protection. If my knowledge is still current CFTC/NFA banned CFDs, cryptos and metals from all USA platforms. Bitcoin is available for trading but not for me. Which country is your Oanda account located?

By the way the spread for BTCUSD is not floating but always 36.

No Bitcoin chart is available in Oanda Europe. Checked it up and down, Mt4, Desktop, or Browser.
Reading the thread and as OANDA long-time client.
But one cannot avoid having second thoughts about them.

-There´s more than one case, including other forums, of Oanda giving people a really hard time extracting funds. Especially profits. Some claim their money was never returned.
-Many had issues with trades "disappearing", (happened to me, and was handed back with a loss, meaning my stop was not included, and it would have been a small profit!).
-I changed my account from the UK-based to the Europe-based, as per Oanda´s "strong suggestion". It took a lot of work, and cost me about 100 Euros in "transaction fees".
I asked them to give me my whole annual 2020 statement from the old account, cause they simply blocked my access to that account once the new one was opened. They promised in an email to do that by end of February, NO LUCK. Sent them an email, no answer!

I could never imagine my Bank, treating me that way. Never ever even came close to those "strange practices".They operate as a Bank, respect the laws.
Probably that is the problem, we expect the same treatment from Forex Brokers, it just doesn´t work like that.
One needs to be very, very careful.
I the meantime, this thread is VERY USEFULL, I´m pretty sure Onada looks here, and would rather see positive comments. Maybe, in a little way, it helps them think twice, before playing games.

Looks like European regulators are getting just as bad as USA regulators.
So now OANDA finally sent me my 2020 account statement.

Hard to believe, they just "created/invented something", with no trades, no loss, no profits, and only the last transfer to my Bank.
According to them, there was zero activity!!!!
I put in at least 100 trades last year, through a couple of subaccounts.
Unreal what these people allow themselves to do to their clients.
Like I said before, once they "strongly suggested" I should move my account to OANDA Europe, they blocked my old UK account. So I have absolutely no access.
I´m left alone with the nice boys and girls at the Finanzamt in Germany, they want every detail!
SUMMARIZING:
OANDA is a Market Maker (although they will deny it with sweet words), and they do trade against you, meaning they win when you lose.
They will hunt your stops at the news, overnight spread spikes, etc. If you survive those, beware of the double weekend spike.
If you survive cause you kept your stop at a prudent distance, great, but that adds big to your costs!

Why do I still use their platform?
Only broker free of lots, I adjust my position size, stop- risk, to the cent.
They are not clean, but there are worse brokers out there.
Can you still make money trading with them, yes provided you know how to trade, and are aware of their tricks.
An "ocean full of sharks" is the business of trading.
