Logically - I think - the indicator (& complete setup) cannot (and should not) be used without context.
In my example the context was
a) trend
b) reversal
c) range
Even if you use the same indicator (which I don't necessarily advise you to do) you have to use this same indicator differently in altered contexts.
Directional bias, entry, exit: all signals will be different in different contexts.
Example: In an uptrend you will want to enter after a lower high; in a range you will want to enter after a lower or upper extreme.
So - using the same indicator for both situations may mean cross-50 in case 1 and the leaving of OB/OS-areas in the second case (i. e. with Stoch or RSI).
To pretend that you "simply" look at identical signals - and then find (unsurprisingly) that it doesn't function well in all situations disregards the fact that we use tools (ALL tools) always within a given framework in which we know how and why they work.
