I just sent a pm. I go by trade chaser there as well.

I will say I will definitely keep the ideas coming, but I am disappointed in myself. The trade idea I made in post 86... It was an idea made on H4 for a long play, but pulled out on M30. in short, I traded it like a short play, missed on pips, and now I feel myself wondering where is safe.

Glad to get a win, as you have to take your pips and leave, but where I feel my entry was okay, my exit was haphazard and without much reason...

Head and shoulders on EJ on M15...

Looking at TSR - Weekly, Daily, H4... all red. H1, M30, green... M15 just flipped... tell me hayseed... how many bars can I expect an M15 signal to last again - I need some confidence to make up for lack of testing/experience lol.

oh-well, orders are in place, pyramiding down to the last swing low.

how similar do these two look? Curious what your thoughts are hayseed... with correlated pairs, do you follow your system regardless or do you reduce your exposure with smaller size?

same for me sometimes.... couple minutes later and i've forget clean about it....

it helps me to plot the trades out on a chart.... start to finish.... flipping thru the time frames can point out errors pretty quick.....

the date can be selected ....... 2020.5.1 00:00 ...... year.month.day. hour.minute....

it's a script so goes in the scripts folder..... reduces the cpu load......h

I wake up depressed, as well as enraged at FIFO rules in the US. is it a demo account? Yes. truth be told I have a hugo's way little $100 account that grew 20% yesterday on GU; AU; and EJ. but the trade explorer here got hit. that is just ego, but it sucks looking back at the that trade idea and knowing that if OANDA allowed me to drag a SL, I would have banked huge on EJ and CJ.

Another lesson here... Even though I was unable to put SL/TP due to broker, I was able to sleep fine. why? demo account. need to get more disciplined at acting as though it is real. funny thing, the pain is surpisingly real when I see my E3 pips for the month below my posts, so that is definitely going to allow me to look through a different lens next week.

Positive takeaway - this is the second trade idea that I have had for this pair in two days that fleshed out. certain pieces of my analysis are getting slightly more consistent, and I need to figure out what that is exactly!

by the way - that red line is where price made it to... plenty of opportunity for profit taking along the way.

hayseed... do you have anything in your arsenal that simply closes trades based on a predetermined price level, or even a horizontal line on the graph? not only to hide TP/SL, but to get past Oanda's FIFO issues?

When I set pending trades, and I try to pair them with stop losses, they get denied even if the stop losses or take profits would trigger in proper order...

do you have anything that you have used that will allow you to close all of your orders at a given price level, or even perhaps at a horizontal line? just curious how you have been able to manage the new FIFO but also continue with pending orders!

ooooooanda..... they are going to be in hot water one day over their latest stop loss/profit target changes.....

as for fifo....

the best and safest approach is to not have any 2 orders on the same pair with the same lot size..... this voids the fifo rule...

and is why some of my orders go in what will seem to most everyone as martingale.... 0.01, 0.02, 0.03 and so on.... then you can have trailing stops, profit targets and stoploss's on each order..... so rather than place a single mini lot order, just send a 0.05, 0.03, 0.02 at the same time.... you can close any of them at any time regardless of which was placed first....

i'll try to post pictures....

i don't try to hide my stoploss's from anyone..... oanda can see them....

my preferred approach to placing orders is as mentioned before..... a lazy manner of blanketing the daily atr with pending 0.01 orders above and below the daily close.... spaced from 2 to 10 pips depending.... this of course throws me dead in the middle of oanda's and nfa's fifo rule and a accounting issue in metatrader 4 itself.... the ea in chart below is my solution..... more on that later....

bottom line, use different size orders and fifo does not exist.... and you might wake up in a better mood....h

going back thru your posts now..... you had some good points and questions that i was too busy to answer.....

below is your chart.... can't remember the time frame but lets say it's the 1440.....

that chart has some easy to spot trends..... during those down trend stretches, i'll just send enough sell limits and sell stops to blanket the daily atr.... if the atr is 100, i might send 5 of each spaced 20 pips apart..... only during times where the 240 trend agrees..... if daily atr is 20, they'll be 4 pips apart.....

my expected move is always 5, 6 or 7...... the time frame and pair does not matter..... you'll understand and be able to see exactly what i mean later this weekend.....

you'll need the indicators below later.... the JJMASeries.mqh is an include so it goes in the include folder.....

on closing trades..... that's a big subject..... will need to explain that better later .... but yes.....

often close them in waves, esp when a new zigzag leg has printed..... as if i have 20 open sell orders and all of a sudden a new 240 down leg prints, alerts go off and all orders will be closed.....

often close them on combined profit target reached.... i have things that send alerts and pn's for account profit and a per symbol profit..... this is most useful at night.... or those ever so often spikes...... alerts go off and all orders are closed....

can tell from your posts and charts you are putting far more thought into trades than me.....

i literally trade by numbers and colors..... the amount of math required to produce those numbers and colors can lock up cpu's..... in the end it's colors and numbers.....

this was my first method dealing with oanda fifo additional restrictions..... not something i use any more.....

it sorted all trades by lot size and pair.... this way if i wanted to place another trade with it's own profit target and stop loss i'd just chose an open slot.....

if i was planning on taking priscilla out to eat, i'd just close that 0.02 eurusd trade..... if we were going to a real fancy place, like sonic drive in, might close that 0.04 euraud.....

would tell her the aussies are paying, order anything she wants......h

as for monitoring extended lengths, this is how i once did it..... not something i use any more.....

on the left under zigzag.... the 6 dots represent the time frames 15 thru weekly.....the colors reflect the last legs direction.... the numbers represent the current legs length compared to it's average length....

so a lime 0, represents an up leg that's length is less than it's average..... a lime 1 represents the length being between 100% and 200% it's average.... a lime 2, between 200% and 300% it's average..... and so on.....

the thought being a high 30 minute number that's against the higher time frames direction is a good shot.....

the shot being something like the alma tsr cross following that extreme zigzag....h

with a little time you can create dashboards in excel far better that in metatrader..... the ability to sort is distinct advantage....

if you lay out your excel sheets with rows by symbols like you did there, then export the data bar by bar....

metatrader has one slight advantage in that i can put all sorts of useful information in each objects name..... by sliding the cursor over an object allows you to read it.....

the ea below is something i don't use any more....

it takes every symbol and allows selection of probably 50 or more adjustable indicators and plots out the signal bar by bar.....

the current signal there is seen in the top left corner, the three pole super smoother ma....... after years of studying, the indicator really does not matter that much.... the qqe layout will be similar.....

selecting a single pair, the layout changes to every indicator being ploted in the similar manner for that single symbol..... so then you can compare every indicator bar by bar....

looking at the jpy pairs you can see that once the three pole super smoother ma turns red one 1 jpy pair, others soon follow..... with a little bit of higher time frame filtering this can give confidence in trades.....

with deeper data mining you can discover which pairs lead the pack and which follow..... or which indicator leads and which follows..... or... or.... or....

till your cpu locks up.....h

hey ot.... i asked twee if he could fix it so we could send attachments like mq4 and ex files in pm's..... he said they would look into it.... usually with twee, that means you can expect to see it soon.....

quite often someone might need code work done but not want it public....

there used to be several sites like rapidshare and some others that were handy.... sites used to store things in manners that google could search within files themselves.....

was handy back when i first was learning to code..... most of that is gone now along with those sites....

keep saying i'll start saving everything on mediafire.... just can't find the time.....h

trading correlated pairs, basket trading and things along that line can be appealing..... like in terrible times people will buy the jpy and chf....

my preference is just to look into the bunch and try the best...... seems every time i start trading a lot of pairs, something goes wrong..... and things go wrong enough as is.....

but still, we can clearly see your right when all the pairs are plotted bar by bar.....

if one jpy pair falls, most will fall.... if one rises most rise....

if one eur pair falls, most will fall.... if one rises most rise.....

the diamonds ea will take every pair, time frame and more than 50 indicators and display them a wide range of methods.....

the gbpaud chart below shows the daily tsr bar by bar for every pair..... the correlation is not perfect but some can be seen.... and tradable.....

the eurcad 240 chart is a different view..... it's a single pair, eurcad, with all the indicators display in a bar by bar.....

now you tell me..... what kinda gomer would be shorting the eurcad on thursday and friday with almost every dang indicator green......

the kinda gomer that lost 50+ bucks.....h

Hayseed... Thanks for all of the info and detailed replies! means a lot that there are people on ff that are willing to share so much.

Also, cannot tell if this is a good or a bad thing! However, I can tell you in the last 4 weeks, I have seen the charts differently than before, in a very good way. a break from the charts can do wonders.

I will work with the attachments and see what I can see with them. however, a lot of what you mention, you also mention not using so much anymore. Is that the case with everything you've posted thus far? If so, is that primarily due to the level of comfort youve gotten that you don't need, or rather you don't get the same value out of these tools that you thought you would?

it's like reading a book on building bird houses.... at first you will probably refer to that book quite often, as there are many types and sizes of birds so many types and sizes of boxes are required..... but after awhile you memorize everything the book has to say about every bird in your area.... so the book stays on the shelf.....

i have memorized what is shown in those charts.... mostly by desire..... but also by learning what is important and what is not..... several of those things above were used to understand how indicators related to each other and how the pairs did the same all in a bar by bar manner.....

once i figured it out, i moved on.....

it was same deal on the average length of time for each indicator signal on each pair and each time frame..... once i figured it out i moved on.....

you just memorize it.... not everything, just what matters.....

and all that matters to me now is the current color and current count.....h

brilliant metaphor. I see exactly what you mean. I have still yet to be able to apply and study all of the above. But I can tell you my mind has been turning all weekend.

I keep thinking about your thoughts about trend, and I am curious your thoughts about the following thesis in a way to approach trade ideas:

in terms if Weekly, what if the primary focus was the leg of ZZ. I feel the larger the TF, the more fundamental view you have. After all, a 200ma of a weekly chart is 4 years, and I imagine most pairs experience vast changes that drive value in currency over that cycle. Naturally, indicators lag, and using an 89TSR, we are still looking at almost 2 years of data. Not a bad thing, but again, by the time there is a flip on some indicators, one may be 6 months behind.


I fully agree that half a bundle is a bundle, but I wonder....

what if you just trade with the current ZZ leg. An object in motion tends to stay in motion as the old adage goes. PA will prove the end of the leg, but until that happens, regardless of the tsr, SMA, etc, if the current leg has extended enough to create a new leg in a new direction, would you consider that a fair shift in trend to begin trading toward it?

another thought:
• Trading leg retraces based on the weekly (perhaps on daily, H4, or H1 indicator fillips)
• if current direction is both with the current Weekly leg AND Weekly/Daily indicators are in agreement (saw weekly leg is going down and weekly/Daily indicators are bearish as well) - one uses full risk
• if trading against any of the above, one uses half risk - example being if the weekly leg is down, but Daily/H4 structure of ZZ has showing breaking of lower highs paired with higher lows, you can play those daily fibs back up the Weekly leg at half risk until H4/Daily structure resumes the downward momentum shown on the weekly.

I suppose if there was a way to sum up the above it would be as follows:

how can one use the the higher time frames to a) limit too much analysis and b) trade though major wave oscillations in a manner that keeps you in the time frame in control with risk based on the bigger picture (I am trading against the big trend, but with respective risk in mind and only because a significant trend change has made itself apparent on medium time frame).

lots of words, but trust me, infinitely more thoughts lol.

More on the above. The main reasoning for the above is because of that statement you made a few posts ago about needing to get XXXX Pips this week.

One cannot trade just to trade - that is a sure fire plan for failure. However, in the spirit of prop trading, the more opportunities you can present yourself with, the better off you will be.

The previous post is an attempt at finding that happy medium of truly trading only what comes to you while also opening up those instances that one allows himself to come.
