Thank you for this interesting article. As far as I'm concerned these so called all-star economists have no clue about the real economy. QE is the best tool to get the stock market higher but doesn't help the economy at all. Bringing on more QEs will help the country go near bankruptcy

Whats also funny about this site people are allowed to insult with racial slurs bigotry plain vulgarity and its fine but post an intelligent post about current politics and gets "breach of conduct"

Still permitted, 9 flights arriving today from various Asian origins including China in Vancouver alone. There may have been several more earlier. Dumb is as dumb does and the clowns are running the Circus in Canada. I used to own a retail service business in an International Airport years ago, sure glad I don't today!
Even if the USA bans flights directly you still have thousands of these people wandering through airports possibly contagious with plenty of connecting flights to the USA. Perhaps they'll fly to Canada and then fly to the USA or get a rental car and drive into the USA and pickup a flight in Seattle.

Davit, totally understood. The younger generation are Socialist and lefist, while the older generation are Moderates and Rightist.

Because having grown up in Soviet Union up to early teens standing 4hrs to buy bread milk just basic mundane staff was atrocious and what was worst all the corruption. Give it 2hrs will come down.All commodity pairs opened with gap but I am confident will get corrected very quicky

Davit, great post. Little does the younger generation know of Socialism and Communism and it's shortcomings. However, I believe there are enough Deplorables out there to make a difference to expose Bernie Sanders for what he IS, and for what he's NOT.

What we need is to deregulate health billion dollar industry so we can get same drugs same price Canada is paying but we are paying 2 or 3x more.
One emergency visit here in Boston is 3k billed to insurance even if they put a small bandage on minor cut.Hospitals dentists all piling up super premium prices because there is no competition! Here comes Bernie thinks government can make it cheaper! LOL last time I checked US military was paying over 600 dollars for toilet seat. Government can't run health care just can't.

Or pushing prices to trigger cluster stops for liquidity to get filled

Sadly, our own Federal Government would not know one thing about efficiency and how to save a Nickel. Too much Swamp attached to every Bill and Every Govt. Department. Agreed better drug prices out of Canada/India. I certainly do not feel like paying for FREE Healthcare for every low life lazy piece of crap in this country. Free Enterprise is the only ticket that will stand up on Two Feet. Free Medical is not a Human Right, this country can't afford it. Even Canadians that have Socialized Medicine realise it's just a way for the Government to kill you.
Hell, I know plenty of Canadians who come down here and are happy to pay for an operation here otherwise it takes years to get it free. Sadly we have an incredible amount of stupid people in this country who want everything free. There is Nothing Free, everything comes with a Price.

Things to watch for this week and other thoughts. It is a light news week with some red news. I am watching for a weakening Euro, currently in baskets of EA, AC from last week.
G20 – Saturday meeting to discuss coronavirus implications. China predicted growth decline of 5.6% and globally by .1 this year. I’m watching for move to safe haven yen. USD/JPY is already dropping from its 112 high.

MON
EUR – German IFO – forecast to decline to 95 from 95.9. This should be an indicator of euro behavior this week. This would strengthen my own current short positions in EA. I am holding trades from last week.

USD-FOMC Mester speaks – low impact expected but may give an indication of any coronavirus fallout, in conjunction with comments from Kaplan and Clarida on Tuesday.

TUES
USD – Consumer Confidence – forecast to increase to 132.6 from 131.6. US sentiment is positive, in spite of the coronavirus impact, it may not be felt for another month though.
USD – Richmond Manufacturing Index – also worth watching – no change expected though

WED
AUD – Private Capital Expenditures – forecast increase from -.2% to .5%, supports EA short. Watching this one
NZD – ANZ Business Confidence-forecast information not available however it has seen improved numbers over the past few cycles. Negative number from available history still signal pessimism though.

THURS
USD – Durable Goods and Prelim GDP – Durable Goods data forecast as mixed so may not have a significant impact either way, Prelim GDP is not considered the most watch GDP number so may also not affect significantly. In the absence of other news however it may strengthen the USD if it holds to the forecast increase from 2.1 to 2.2%

FRI
CAD – GDP forecast to remain unchanged at .2%
USD – Core CPI, Personal Spending are forecast to remain unchanged at .2% and .3% respectively,
Chicago PMI – forecast to increase to 46.4 from 42.6. This may lend some strength to the USD before the weekend.
