You've touched on the positives and JP has mentioned the negatives (max trade size in phase 1 is around 0.5 lots. That's £5/pip. Would probably take over 2-3 months to make the initial 5k. But I think it can be done. Perhaps phase 1 is just to test whether you can be patient with the markets. But the end goal is to get to the larger amount to trade with, and patience will pay here. Prop firms and funds of any kind in fact, are generally incredibly risk averse. It's more about not losing, than it is about winning.
That's also why you will find small print where they will prohibit your target being met in one large chunk. They want a steady, stable and consistent trader.
It is also true that you will have to tailor a style that will best suit the chosen method's ability to raise the target at £5 pp or whatever.
