{quote} //----- hey matt..... have to admit, swap really never enters my mind..... occasionally, like this afternoon i might go, 'hmmm', but that's all..... had to read up on how they go about handling swap..... oanda seems to be going out of their way to make swap calculation vague and difficult..... i gave up on live chat..... have 10 accounts but only checked 1..... now believe the swap was correct after all..... in the chart below, the first set of rows using their supplied math i was able to come very close to the swap rates for 1 standard...

I agree that oanda uses fuzzy math to figure swaps and I have grown accustomed to getting screwed by them. But, at least on EUR/USD or USD/CHF, I can expect about $10-$20 per standard lot at 4pm. I look at https://www.oanda.com/us-en/trading/financing-fees/ before 4pm daily to see the rates. As of 5:51 am CST the only pairs that are showing any swap rates at all are NZD pairs... It seems very random and arbitrary. Just wondered if I was alone in getting screwed...

Have you seen this:
https://www.forexfactory.com/showthr...=975445&page=3

Day Trading in Germany is finished, not only that, through leverage, it could ruin you even being profitable. They will calculate your taxes on your winning trades including Leverage, but NOT deduct your losses!!
Trade frequently with a 10000 account, and even being profitable you could end up losing your house. Unbelievable but true. The whole German trading community is in panic (options, CFDs, Forex)..
And the law is already passed

I have seen insane actions taken by various governments but this takes the first cake of the year and it's a big cake. With the UK getting out of the EU all the EU countries are eagerly competing to get the financial business from firms that want out of the UK. It very much looks like that the German government doesn't want this business. Since German citizens voted for this government I can only say ...

Quick question: with their new rule, say I open a 1 lot position at 4:59PM EST and close my position at 5:01PM EST
I'll still get the full day worth of swap? where as before the change I'd get 2 minute worth of swap?

also do you get swap for holding throughout wkends?

Yes opening a position at 4:59PM EST and closing the position at 5:01PM EST will be charged the swap rate for the day. Swaps are to be settled 3 days after the transaction date this is why a position that remains opened at the end of Wednesday is charged 3 days of swaps because it ends on Saturday. I never trade on Wednesday and keep a position opened to avoid the 3 days swap. I think, with the new rules, that we will be charged for swap if it has to be settled over the weekend. The other method was way better since it was cheaper for traders that kept a position opened for a long time.

With this logic, if you get positive swap, you can get into a trade on Weds 4:59PM EST get out by 5:01PM EST
and earn triple swap, correct?

I think that it's time to switch to FX futures. You do not have any swap cost. It does not make any sense to trade long term with forex brokers. Even keeping your position over ONE night it would cost you a couple of % of your profit or bigger loss.

I am using OANDA MT4 and it only has a few days of history (~6 days) on M1 TF for eurusd. Does anyone have the same experience? I have set Max bar settings in my MT4 to a large number but still have the issue. No problem with other brokers.

Were you able to get an answer/solution to this as I'm having the same trouble. All charts will only go back 35 days. Never seen this problem before. Very suspicious.

I also have the same problem. I need 2 years of 1 hour data for oanda. No body points to any solution. Best solution i could find was tickstory.com but i want real oanda data. I have noticed there is a difference in data between third party data and your actual broker data so its important to me.

Oanda replied to 3 emails reassuring me the currency pairs they offer are "direct currency trades" thus not affected by the new BS German Tax Law.
I have serious doubts though;

"Dear client,

Thank you for contacting OANDA.

You may also refer in to this link: https://www1.oanda.com/resources/leg...l/margin-rates

Everything that falls under Forex pairs should not be affected by this law. As they are spots."

I hope that OANDA is right since forex trading is basically exchanging an amount in a currency for another currency and there will be no tax for exchanging € or $ into £. Looking at the web link you posted it states that for trading the margin rate for CFDs is 10% for retail clients and 2% and professional clients. However, for those of us who have been trading with OANDA for a long period of time the margin rate can be as low as 1% even for CFDs. Here is my the Russell 2000 chart.

Have you heard of positive overnight swap???
Odd ain't it?
Who knows

Maybe you have a point though , long Euro use futures to avoid swap ...
But every night futures price drops a pip, sooooo no you don't have a point

Brokers are always charging. They ain't here for you to make money.

Green pips all.
