CLS received the award for Best FX Market Data Provider at FX Week e-FX 2019 Awards for its CLSMarketData suite.

First, what exactly does CLS do?

CLS is a market infrastructure group providing settlement, processing and data solutions. CLSMarketData is based on the largest single aggregate source of FX Executed Trade data available to the market. The data products consist of the volume data and volume-related data sets of CLS and therefore represent an invaluable resource, as the market coverage historically and currently with intraday offers is big. Conclusion:


Basically an excellent idea to increase market transparency. The actual FX spot volume data has been calculated every 5 minutes since 2016 and made available to third-party customers every hour. An interesting idea to making money with volume data. If the FX spot volume data has been made available since 2016, then the question arises as to whether ECN Broker and Market Maker can also receive this data. If so, the question now arises why these data are not passed on to the customers. So far, the volume data from the forex is calculated with tick data, which has little to do with the actual volume of bid and ask. A concrete volume presentation could significantly reduce the loss rate for many traders. Maybe that's not wanted by the broker. But that could change quickly. At some point, the first broker starts, forcing the other brokers to follow suit.

CLS update the volume data only every hour. This gives the big players enough time to complete their strategies within the hour, where the others have no actual volume data available. As a result, the big players still have one hour head Start.

As a scalper, this data would not be an advantage, as you have to react more quickly to situations. The alternative is the Euro FX Future data. These data are changed with each tick, giving us a deep insight into the market. The price of the EURUSD and Euro FX is almost parallel in seconds , there are only different prices due to the swaps. However, the volume data from the future can be used exactly in the forex market. The EURUSD in the forex market is about 100 times as large as the Euro FX in the futures market. While the EURUSD trades around 17,000,000 lots a day, Euro FX only gets 170,000 to 150,000 lots. If there are 80 Lot Ask in the Euro FX order book at a price level, one can assume that the Forex market may have 8,000 lots. That's just a speculative example. The liquidity is therefore 100 times larger in the Forex market, which depending upon broker on the execution times can affect. In addition, every trader can get this stock market data for a few dollars a month. Crucial is then still with a corresponding prop software to filter this stock market data. There are different providers for each area with different priorities, which can be found on the Internet.

The retail traders pose no threat to the big players, even if they receive hourly the current volume data from the forex market. Because the actual business of big players takes place in the time when the volume is not updated. The big player trades are therefore not in danger and in addition you can still earn money with the volume data. However, this is still an advantage for CLS's customers. They are usually long-term investors and previously had no volume data from the forex market. At least 24 times a day you will receive a specific volume information. This is another advantage over retail traders. It can be assumed that almost all participants in the forex market now have concrete volume data, except the retail traders.

In EURUSD retail traders trade around 1,000,000 lots each day. This amount is not only worthwhile for the big players, but now also for those who are CLS customers. This situation is a bit unfair. If we compare Forex Forex trading with a football game, beginners without football boots will play against the biggest world champions. Everyone can think about how that works out.

If you have not been profitable so far, that's not because of you, but because of the fact that you just do not have any information from the market you're trading. It's as if you want to land a plane without ILS system in fog. CLS already has 23,000 customers who now have more information in the Forex market than you. That means the market is getting harder for you every day. Begin to deal with the stock market data and learn how to collect the big players in the accumulation phases Ask and Bid in the distribution phases. These big players sometimes go down 20 pip with a few hundred thousand lots, knowing that they can dominate the market and push up or down anytime. Anyone who does not know this way of working, has no chances in this market. And most of the time it's just because of a lack of information.

But even we small traders can defend themselves with great creativity but without much financial effort. In this blog you will not find a trading system, but many ways you can create a custom setup to trade more profitably. This is very time consuming but once you have created this setup, you are independent of any news, forex indicators, systems or trainers. You look at what is happening in the market right now and can act instead of reacting.

This resulted in individual projects that I shared with others. This blog has no commercial intentions and you will not find a system to trade with, because that does not work. This blog is a kind of buffett where traders find different pieces of information that they can use for their own setup, no more, no less. What makes a trader successful?

Looking back over the last 10 years and describing my evolution in trading, would be an endless story. First of all, at the beginning I was distracted too much by different information rather than focusing on one thing. If you try too much at once, you can not spend enough time focusing on the crucial things that drive you forward. In life of a trader is all about the right setup. When I started trading, I was fortunate enough to have been a successful entrepreneur for 20 years. That's why I knew what matters as a self-employed person. The first few years are a real challenge and those who do not give 100%, are faster off the market than they can blink. This is nothing else when trading. The first and crucial point is that you are burning for trading. Arnold Schwarzenegger once said: Be hungry and stay hungry. His 6 rules of success are an example of his insane success.

1. Have a vision.
That's an important point, because those who have no vision can never arrive.

2. Do not listen to the naysayers.
There are many people in your life who tell you, that what you do, will never be successful. Just make sure they are not right.

3. Work your ass off
If you need 8 hours of sleep, you just have to sleep faster. I myself work between 10-12 hours a day and I look forward to every new day.

4.There is no plan B
If there was a plan B, it would not be dramatic to fail by Plan A. Think about it once.

5. You can only feel complete as a human being when you think about what you can do for the people around you.
Everything you do, you get back one day, so give something back and help other people.

6. There is no self-made man
No matter how successful someone is, he has rarely made it alone. Even as a trader you need people who stand behind you. Alone, you create a lot, together with other almost everything.

Success is a concatenation of the right psychological attitude.




At first I tried to write down some things that belong to a Trader Setup. This is like a puzzle, only when it is complete, you can be really successful. But you can already achieve success if some parts are missing. But then you have to optimize your setup over time. Take a look at the things I have noted and answer for yourself how you handle the individual points, what experiences you have gained and what points urgently need to be improved. We have to keep in mind that these points are inevitably connected and build on each other. A good trader regularly questions his points and changes the things that give him a market advantage. This does not always have to do with money, but could also mean more time for the family, better health or less fear of loss.

We traders have a big challenge, there is no one who tells us which of our points needs to be improved urgently to work more efficiently. There is no professional trader who is interested that we getting ahead as a trader. Not even the coaches, who wants only your money in the first place. Your partner would like to help you, but he does not know how. So, we traders are mostly alone. Then one look at Forex factory, in a thousand different blogs, to find the Holy Grail and is in the end more confused than anything else. This is because there are finished systems are offered. But believe me, that works in the long run in the most rare cases. First you have to deal with the system and set it up, the most time-consuming is now the time you need to test this system. In most cases it will not work for you, then you are looking for something else.

Go another way. Take my slide as a thought support, make you now the headings for your own setup. Then fill in these headings with your knowledge, experience and preferences. I recommend you do this in writing. If you've written everything down, you find that there are still some gaps. Now you can research and the vast knowledge on the internet and at FF will help you to fill these gaps. This will definitely get you closer to your goal. Concentrate on the essential points and try not to find a 100% solution. According to the Pareto principle, 80% of the time brings 20% of the results. The rest of the time (80%) is wasted to get 100%, but that is ineffective.

When I focused solely on the EURUSD, some traders told me that this could not work. One should trade at least 5-10 currency pairs. After 10 years I am still a full-time trader and those who advised me back then are again in the employment relationship. So, go your own way, take ideas and try them out. But do not let others bend you. Maybe you are not yet a successful trader, but in many areas, you already know what is good or less good for you. Sometimes one should listen to his inner voice.

Two things will catch up with you on the way to success. The greed and the fear, these things you have to fight every day. My fear is gone, because I can never destroy more than my account balance with the broker. Nevertheless, I go to the market with respect every day. Just open a second account with the broker, then you can shuffle your money within seconds. I also have the greed under control, because I have enough reserves and know that makes me more money not happier. The slide I created shows the topics our blog is about. Here you do not get a system, but this blog is a buffet where you can put together your own setup. This may be boring and very time consuming, but in my opinion the only way to success. Of course, there are more great posts on FF, look into my Buddies and subscriptions list there are very successful traders and interesting posts to get ideas for your setup.

The goal should be to create a basic setup that you can work with. If you already have some experience, you know strategies that have been the most successful. Build on it and do not be distracted. Then it's just about the puzzle pieces to optimize or to add puzzle pieces. So, you have enough levers to accelerate your success. My success is based on the fact that I have always gone my own way and let myself be influenced by little of others. It's my money that I invest, so I also set the rules and no one else. Of course, I listen to criticisms or opinions and may change certain behaviors, but I do not leave my path. Because at the end of the day I have to cope with my losses or profits. And nobody helps me.

A little tip at the end. At the beginning of my trading career, I photographed each of my trading screens individually at the end of the week, writing or dictating my findings. This allowed me to match my trades from the trading journal, to the individual screen views. So, I was able to quickly optimize ineffective screen views.

With trading, you earn as much as a doctor or lawyer, it's crazy that many are unwilling to learn 6 to 10 years for it and believe that they are millionaires tomorrow. The doctor often has to take a high loan after his license to finance his doctor's practice. Only years later he really make money. A loan I would not recommend as a trader, but a high willingness to learn, 10 years a 10-12 hours a day and then may you will be successful. However, there is no guarantee and security. The two safest things in life are death and the tax. And if we pay a lot of taxes, trading was definitely worth it.

I'm Wulong (my nickname) from Belgium and I would like to complement you with this great thread. You're a friendly, helpful person and you have a great insight into trading matters. Like many others I have been learning the hard way how to trade, I first traded Binary Options, lost some money in the beginning, and at the end of my BO period I finally made some good profit, but then BO was prohibited in Belgium, so I had to start all over again with Forex, which is much different. Now I'm making profit again, after having blown some small Forex accounts, I'm finally getting used to my complicated system, ha ha, it's that complicated no one can trade with it but me. So I will not show it. I would like to trade with less indicators, but I have proven to my self I can do it, so what the heck ? I have read some pages and I have downloaded some indicators, as an 'indicator man' I'm always curious to test out an indicator. Right now I'm testing your Bionic candles on M1, this indicator has some potential. Mostly I discard an indicator very fast, I see rapidly that my trusted indis are better. I sometimes wonder how people can trade with a naked chart, I would feel 'naked' myself without my the indicators I'm using now for years. As I'm very busy with other things and have not much time to trade, I'm of course a scalper, taking fast profit from the market whenever I can and closing my trades very fast when I'm in profit.
Anyway, keep up the good work !

If you try to dig and look for a so-called think-tank or research institute that collects all data relating to fx and fx options, you will then know why and when market crashes to balance the books. The world's largest custodian bank backs the invisible think-tank. This is part of capitalist system.

2. Tick charts: Have you coded any tick charts to trade randomly based on the size of ticks. Example, for every 1000 ticks buy 1 lot if 501+ favour buy and 499+ don't and sell 1 lot if 501+ ticks favour sell and 499 ticks. This is the only entry criteria. Use fast momentum period of 30 minutes and restrict the maximum open lots to 10. If momentum is strong, scalping for profit of 12 pips is done, both sides trades will happen and trades will be in profit.

Since the tickchart in the Forex market gives me no information about the number of ask and bid, I only use it in the price range, as it represents the price much better than in the time chart. The decisive advantage is as follows: In a high volatility phase, a large candle forms in the time chart and many candles in the tick chart. With low volatility, many small candles are formed in the time chart and only a few candles in the tick chart. That means the tickchart adapts to the volatility. There is a lot going on, there are more candles, nothing is going on, there are only a few candles. A fixed time frame is an unnecessary factor for me.

The decisive ticks I get exclusively from the stock market data. The 1 tick chart is the clearest, as it shows you exactly how much lot a single dealer trades at a certain price level. Only by transferring the data from a 1-tickchart into other time units is it possible to see how much ask or bid from how many dealers at certain price levels were brought to the market. The right filter can be used to derive important information. And that's exactly what I can not give any real information, as this is still being investigated in our project No. 8.

I congratulate you for being successful with many indicators, which is indeed a special achievement. I decided after all to show my M1 chart after all, of course not my subwindows with indicators, but only the indicators from you I'm testing live on M1 now. The bionic chart, together with strong bionic candle and momentum candle, well I'm slowly getting used to them. Also the Zig zag easy I had it added to my chart already before you pointed it out to me I should try it, thanks for doing that, now I understand it much better how to interpret the strenght of the different M1 candles. Maybe later I will test those indis on M5 and M15 too. Today I was home, but I had not much time to trade, did only two small scalps. Working full-time, 4 children, 4 dogs, a big garden and my wife need attention too, so my trading time is very limited, nevertheless I do like this 'game'. It's always pleasant to 'beat' the market, especially when you have been beaten up by the market in the past, ha ha.

These are very few and less comparing to what we few guys habitual and familiar with Jan (wulong) -

Ha, ha, Nas, long time ago ...well, well, how many indicators in my M1 chart, I really do not know, probably way too many, but I do not care, since I'm very much used to them. But be reassured I have not that many in my M5, M15, H1 and H4 chart, although ...it does not matter. Anyone should make their very own systems, no matter what. And I have no problem adding some more interesting indis, this bionic candle baby might help me to focus more on my chart, will see how it goes.
Now the big question arises : why do I need that many indicators in my M1 chart ? Well, once I made a M1 chart where M5,M15 and H1 is to be seen without MTF, but simply by giving the slow indicators a big period and I let my fast real M1 indicators ride on the waves of my medium and slow M1 indicators, so I could trade with M1 alone, but when I do that, I miss my 'bigger' M5 and M15 charts, so be it ...ha ha.

Ha, ha, I'm a very bad painter, but with a chart I'm a master painter.
Michael, my hat's off to you, I would not know where to look at 8 different screens, with me all the info is compressed in one, already more than 10 years old, not too big computer screen. I have never been using a tickchart and I do not know if I could cope with one M1 candle divided into 12 candles, that's every 5 seconds a candle, I'm not crazy enough, I guess ...I will dig deeper into that matter when I have some spare time.

I also dedicate a lot of time to one of my passions : rock garden plants or alpines. Mostly I stop trading for some months when it's Spring, hence I have no candles or so on the pic next to my name, ha ha, those are flowers of a Saxifraga.

I welcome you to our blog. I'm assuming that you could not have meant me with your question, because I make my trading decisions only on the stock market data. I know traders who are successful with many indicators and there are traders who can do without indicators. Both are right if they trade successfully. The key is to find your own setup to be profitable. You'll find a post here: The never ending story
