I wouldn't assume too much of trading identities on the internet. For all you know these "great" traders you read about everyday could be struggling after many years of trading to even be profitable. I'm not naming any names or anything like that, because I don't know, but just because someone has a high post count doesnt mean they are a good trader. Just my opinion though, which doesn't mean much.

Isotonic, My vote is for you. You take my place on that list.. I would be not make a good candidate, I like my privacy too much... I would never open my books, and you are a better trader than I.

Kathy,

can you post a system whtat works with backtesting results?

I see all your systems, but none of them appear to be very profitable when subjected to backtests. Perhaps Merlin or someone else can correct me here.

I am skeptical of everything and everyone related to fxcm, so sorry kathy, you are suspect in my books too.

Perhaps you can provide us with more details on the results of yr backtest, eg . % of returns, total trades/profitable trades/loss trades, backtested period, currencies tested, yr risk/money management etc so others could help you.

Take a look at this page. See all the systems that were coded based on Kathy's ideas. Now try and see how many of them are profitable enough that you will be willing to risk your hard earned money with.

I have coded and forward tested systems like BBGun and a few other systems proposed by Boris, and they didn't hold up.

I think what people forget is that the smart thing about using strategies is to know which market environment to use them. Certain strategies are rangebound strategies, others are trend following. Obviously, rangebound strategies will not backtest right in trending environments and vice versa. Blindly backtesting without qualifying market environment may have you missing out on some solid strategies. We have traded all of the strategies that we include in our books before publishing them. Furthermore, certain strategies work better on specific pairs and not on others - which is a huge advantage of trading currencies. If we have a strategy that requires a 20 pip stop, would backtesting on gbpchf really be smart or accurate? Trading is alot more difficult than just backtesting, which can lead to over-optimization. If it were really that easy, the big hedge funds, which i am sure backtest everything > wouldnt be blowing up.

For those who have been following our trade recommendations over the past month, we are up close to 300bp, have hit 11 winners out the past 16 trades - we put our money where our mouth is, and the numbers show it.

This is an excellent point. Automated back testing certainly has its limitations.

Great start to the new blog Kathy & Boris - also sharing your reasons behind taking the trades you have chosen is also very helpful for people wanting to learn and to use the cliche is shows that trading is definitely more art than science.

So very true Kathy! You speak words of wisdom, grounded in experience.

BTW, tell Boris I got his book on Friday and I'm already reading it through for the second time! Great information from him that confirms my own experience and I learned a few new things as well.

BTW, I read your fantastic book as well, and I recently ordered your and Boris's ebook. Would that I could have had these three books when I started trading.

You and Boris are helping more people than you may realize, and I just wanted to let you both know that and to thank you both!

In my book, Kathy's stock went up a couple of points because she was willing to answer some skepticism in a professional thought out manner.

Tradermaji's stock also went up because he was willing to ask the question.

Skepticism should be the default position for any good trader (imo). In fact, I'm skeptical of those who get upset with someone else's healthy skepticism.
