This a NZ song that goes back to the early 1970's and it'a protest song against the damning of Lake Manapouri for a hydro power station. A beautiful area was flooded to create electricity and it caused a lot anger in NZ at the time. John Hanlon wrote and performed this song. When he says "damn the dam cried the Fantail.....", the Fantail is a very friendly and inquisitive bird here in NZ. They're lovely little birds but you must never let them into your house, because it is said that a Fantail inside your house means that there will be a death in the family.

I think I prefer this version to the original......(shock!!!)
